Tencent’s TiMi Studio Group was developing a full Assassin’s Creed game for consoles and PC set in ancient China, working title Assassin’s Creed Destiny, before it was cancelled early in development, MP1st reported on October 15. The outlet published prototype footage it says comes from the portfolios of developers who worked on the project. VGC followed up on October 16. Neither Ubisoft nor Tencent has confirmed the report, and neither had commented publicly when we published.
This is a report based on leaked material, not an announcement. It is also not the same game as Assassin’s Creed Jade, the mobile Assassin’s Creed set in China that Ubisoft says is still in development.

What the Assassin’s Creed Destiny footage shows, according to MP1st
MP1st says most of the material comes from a prototype dated February 2025. We have not hosted or embedded the footage. Based on the outlet’s description, it shows:
- Setting: the Qin Dynasty in 206 BCE, a few years after Jade’s 215 BCE.
- A main mission: a female assassin trying to reach a mysterious artifact inside a sacred palace besieged by the warlord Xiang Yu and his troops, plus early work on a boss fight against Xiang Yu.
- Series staples: stealth kills and the leap of faith.
- A signature weapon: an umbrella-like spinning weapon shown in a placeholder test area, with ink-brush ability icons, a health bar and a yin-yang emblem on the HUD.
- A second character: a male character using parkour to take down enemies. MP1st says that could point to a choice of character gender, unless it was only a placeholder.
The portfolios also include close-ups of weapons such as Xiang Yu’s halberd. MP1st says it isn’t clear when development started.
Why was it cancelled?
Nobody has given an official reason. According to MP1st, TiMi announced a restructuring about a month before the February 2025 prototype, splitting the studio into four teams, and Destiny was cancelled not long after. The outlet says TiMi also dropped other projects: Athena, a Greek-mythology action game in development from 2024 to 2026, and a stylized cyberpunk open-world game at TiMi Montreal, a studio Game File reported closed in February 2026.
MP1st and VGC both tie the cancellation to a wider change at Tencent. Reuters reported in 2024 that the company was moving away from Western franchises, which earn lower margins than its domestic releases.
Assassin’s Creed Jade is a different game
Jade, a mobile game from Ubisoft and Tencent’s Level Infinite that was first shown in 2022, is also set in the Qin Dynasty and also involved TiMi. It went quiet after beta tests. In a March 2026 franchise update, Ubisoft listed Jade among its projects in development and added: “while we recently chose to pivot away from an early project, the lessons from that work are already helping shape our approach going forward.” Ubisoft did not name that project, and nothing confirms it refers to Destiny. Jade still has no release date.

Ubisoft, Tencent and the Assassin’s Creed reset
The report lands during a turbulent stretch for Ubisoft. Tencent completed a €1.16 billion investment in Vantage Studios on November 21, 2025, taking a 26.32% economic interest in the Ubisoft subsidiary built around Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six. Ubisoft keeps control. In January 2026, Ubisoft announced a “major reset” into autonomous creative houses, alongside cost cuts that had cancelled six games by VGC’s February count. In February, it put Black Flag veterans Martin Schelling, Jean Guesdon and François de Billy in charge of the series. This week it moved to close Trials studio RedLynx and cut 70 jobs at Ubisoft Singapore, as we covered in our report on the RedLynx closure and Singapore layoffs.
What it means for players
Nothing has been taken away from anyone: Destiny was never announced, and the footage reportedly shows an early prototype. What the leak does show is how close the series came to another full-scale trip to China. The last one was the 2.5D spin-off Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China in 2015. For players hoping to see the setting in a mainline game, Jade is the only China-set Assassin’s Creed known to be in development. What’s next
Ubisoft’s announced Assassin’s Creed slate includes Codename Hexe at Ubisoft Montreal, with Guesdon as creative director, and the multiplayer Codename Invictus. We’ll update this story if Ubisoft or Tencent comments on Destiny, and we’ll track further reports on our live gaming news page.
