XLGAMES’ Nov 4 launch fixes and workarounds, then a first-hours plan, stats and leveling, gear sources, money tips and what to do once the story ends.

This ArcheAge Chronicles beginner guide starts with the launch bugs, because they are what most new players hit first. XLGAMES listed the main Early Access issues on November 4, ran about three hours of maintenance from 17:00 UTC, and the game came back at 19:53 UTC with a tutorial fix. Some problems are still open, and they have workarounds. After that we cover what to do in your first hours, how leveling and stats work, where gear comes from, how to earn money, and what to do once the story runs out.

Checked November 4, 2026, 20:25 UTC, against XLGAMES’ official Steam announcements and store page. We have not played the game. Anything labelled “our tip” is our reading of the official systems, not developer advice.

  • Server status: the November 4 maintenance (09:00 PT / 17:00 UTC, extended from 2 to about 3 hours) is over. Update through your Steam Library before you launch.
  • Fixed: the tutorial progression block, Meliot not appearing, the Altar of Seals not letting you retry, whispers not showing.
  • Still open: Malchuk not respawning after a death, NPC dialogue quest blocks (for example in Cliffs of Madness), and parties getting stuck when the leader leaves a dungeon.
  • Workarounds: keep the party together until you reach the next area after a dungeon, make every member pick up their own key, and use ESC > Escape when stuck in the terrain.
  • Before you make a character: you can’t transfer between servers in Early Access, and you can’t play across servers.
  • Progression: most EXP comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest, not kills. Trait points come only from Raeven’s Coilstones. Nui Tears raise your max HP.

ArcheAge Chronicles known launch issues and workarounds

XLGAMES posted “Key Issues on Early Access Launch Day and Our Response Plan” at 10:57 UTC on November 4. Early Access had opened at 23:00 UTC the night before (3 PM PT on November 3; launch times by region are in our ArcheAge Chronicles release date guide). The studio then ran the temporary maintenance it announced for 09:00 PT and posted the “Temporary Maintenance Completed” notes at 19:53 UTC. The table puts the two posts together.

Issue Status (Nov 4, 20:25 UTC) What to do
Can’t progress through some tutorial quests Fixed in the Nov 4 maintenance Update the game. If the update button doesn’t appear, fully restart the Steam client
A boss stops spawning after you leave its area and return Fix was “ready” in the 10:57 post. The 19:53 notes only list Meliot by name Our tip: don’t run out of a boss arena mid-fight until the full fix is confirmed
Malchuk doesn’t reappear, or you can’t respawn, after dying to it Under investigation Report it in the official Discord bug-report channel
Quest stuck after talking to NPCs (for example in Cliffs of Madness) Under investigation Report it in Discord. Four Diamond Shores quests can now be abandoned (see below)
Party leader leaves or the party disbands in a dungeon, blocking progress Known. XLGAMES says a fix “may take some time” Keep the party together until everyone has moved on to the next area
Key items not shared with party members Known Every member gets their own key
Character stuck in the terrain Workaround only ESC > Escape. If that fails, restart, log in again and use Escape again
Game stuck on anti-cheat initialization Handled case by case Screenshot it and open a ticket with Customer Support (also in the ESC menu)
Crashes, stutter and frame drops Some crash fixes in the next patch. Optimization is ongoing No official workaround yet
Chat full of other languages A hide-chat option is planned Settings > Game Options > Chat Language Filter

The maintenance also made four Diamond Shores quests abandonable: Weeping Dead’s Doll, Gnoll’s Doll, Seaglass Beach Lantern’s Calling and Watcher’s Village Lantern’s Calling. If one of them blocked your log, you can drop it now. The same patch also turned off player attacks at the Pioneers’ Assembly Hall in the Conflict (PvP) Channel.

Three more things in the official notices are worth knowing before you troubleshoot. Linux and Steam Deck are “not officially supported at this time”. Steam Family Sharing is not supported, so a shared library can’t run the game. And if the first launch shows a long black screen, XLGAMES’ October notice says to wait up to 10 minutes before you file a ticket.

Player reception is split for now: on November 4 at 20:20 UTC the Steam store page showed “Mixed” user reviews, with 57% of 1,830 positive. For a launch-day comparison, see our WoW Forever server status page, which tracked a different MMO’s launch the same week.

ArcheAge Chronicles first hours: what to do first

  1. Choose your server with your friends. XLGAMES’ server notice says characters can’t change servers in Early Access, and players on different servers can’t play together. The game picks your region from your location, and there is a Brazil server, which is listed under NA.
  2. Claim the pre-order costume. Pre-orders include one Dawn Pioneer Set for one class, claimed in-game. Our tip: claim it on the class you plan to keep. Our ArcheAge Chronicles classes guide compares Warrior, Ranger, Berserker and Mage, so we won’t repeat that here.
  3. Set up the UI. Turn on the chat language filter. Rebind any of the 10 UI shortcuts you want to change; free rebinding of movement keys is still on XLGAMES’ to-do list. Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese are machine-translated options under Options > General > Language.
  4. Follow the story, but stop for every point of interest. XLGAMES’ progression post says most EXP comes from quests, discoveries and points of interest. Monster kills give only some.
  5. Spend stat points as you level. Each point buys one stat. The character screen previews the change before you confirm.
  6. Collect Nui Tears and turn them in at Nui Statues for more max HP. The first increases are cheap and each one after costs more, so start early.
  7. Open every chest you find. Chests open once per character, so you are never racing another player.
  8. Party for dungeons, but follow the workarounds above. Dungeons take up to four players, share quest progress, and can also be run solo.

ArcheAge Chronicles leveling and stats explained

Your level gives stat points. Trait points do not come from levels at all. XLGAMES separated the two on purpose so that “go level up” isn’t the answer to every hard fight. The six primary stats, as described in the official progression post:

Stat What it does (official) Who wants it (our reading)
Strength Raises physical attack Melee and physical builds
Agility Raises critical hit chance and adds physical attack Physical builds that want crits
Constitution Raises HP and resistance to critical hits Anyone who keeps dying to bosses
Intelligence Raises magic attack Magic builds
Talent Supports magic attack and lets you use better equipment without penalties Anyone who wants to wear gear above their usual stats
Endurance Raises stamina and defense Melee who dodge, block and parry a lot

Where the EXP comes from. Questing, exploration and points of interest give most of it, and XLGAMES says leveling comes at “a fairly predictable rate” as you clear an area. Killing monsters in a PvP (Conflict) channel gives 10 to 15% bonus EXP, according to the studio’s PvP post. XLGAMES calls the overall boost “modest”, because kills are only a small part of total EXP. You switch channels at a Nui Statue, and switching has a cooldown.

Traits. Every weapon has its own trait tree, and trait points come from Raeven’s Coilstones, each guarded by a powerful boss. Some of those bosses are out in the open, some are hidden, and some appear only through quests. Nodes add stats, unlock new skills or change how existing skills work. XLGAMES’ own Greatsword example has a damage branch that adds Armor Break and turns Sunder into a two-hit Sweeping Slash, and a defensive branch with a guard-usable Pummel Strike that grants a shield. Our tip: put your first Coilstones into one weapon’s tree instead of splitting them. Points are scarce, and the official text doesn’t say whether traits can be reset.

Level cap. As of November 4, XLGAMES’ Steam announcements and store page don’t give a level cap for Early Access, so we won’t guess one.

ArcheAge Chronicles gear: where to get it

Source What it gives (official)
Field bosses (roaming the open world) Gear including accessories, plus crafting materials you can’t get anywhere else
Treasure chests Gear, rare crafting recipes and other items. Once per character
Hersander’s Tower (every one in a zone) A unique accessory, and access to that zone’s Hereafter Challenge
Dungeons and story bosses Each region has its own bosses and dungeons
Crafting Recipes come from exploration. Crafting is part of the Early Access life skills

Some notes from the patch text. Gear has durability: before launch, XLGAMES made disarming with Parry cost less durability. The Nov 4 maintenance “adjusted the dismantle settings for certain items”, so check what an item dismantles into before you break it down. XLGAMES also added four new Lunastones before launch, but its notes don’t explain how they work, so we don’t either. Our tip: Talent is the stat that lets you wear better equipment without penalties, so a few points there can open up drops you’d otherwise have to bench.

How to make money in ArcheAge Chronicles

The game is buy-to-play at $29.99 in North America, with regional pricing elsewhere. According to the Steam store page, the Early Access version includes housing, crafting, trading, and company and guild activities, and the game describes hunting, gathering, farming, trade with other players and “trading runs”. XLGAMES hasn’t published how its currency or trade runs work in Early Access, so here are only the official points and our own advice:

  • Hereafter Stones can no longer be sold (changed in the Nov 4 maintenance), but you can still discard them. Don’t plan on selling them.
  • Field-boss materials can’t be farmed anywhere else, per the progression post. Our tip: hold on to them until you know which recipes need them.
  • PvP gives no rewards. Player kills earn nothing yet, only a kill log and achievements. The studio says it doesn’t want PvP to become an “economic race”, so PvP channels aren’t a way to make money.
  • Don’t buy gold or accounts. Account sharing is the reason XLGAMES blocks Steam Family Sharing. Its notice names account management and the in-game economy, and buying gold or a character puts your account at risk. We don’t link sellers or bots.

What to do at max level in ArcheAge Chronicles Early Access

The Early Access world covers three regions: most of Diamond Shores, plus Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains. XLGAMES says that is more than 60 areas and over a thousand exploration and collection points. Once the story is done, here is what’s there to chase:

  • Hersander’s Tower and the Hereafter Challenge. Each zone has a set of towers, and each one asks a riddle about an item to bring. Satisfy them all and you get a unique accessory plus the Hereafter Challenge: a random, stronger version of one of that zone’s bosses, timed, with your clear time on a leaderboard.
  • Coilstones and Nui Tears you missed. Trait points and max HP both come from exploring, so a full clear of every region keeps making your character stronger.
  • Dungeons and raids. Both are listed in the Early Access content. Dungeons are for one to four players.
  • PvP channels. Only your party and guild are safe. There are no structured objectives yet. Rankings and trophies are “likely” after launch, and trade-route fights are early ideas, not promises.

What’s next: XLGAMES says the first update, in December, adds a female Warrior and the Gladius as a third Warrior weapon. A roadmap is due “soon after launch”, and Early Access should last about 9 to 12 months. The details are in our class guide and in the studio’s October 29 producer letter. Other games launching this week are in our games coming out this week list.

FAQ

Is ArcheAge Chronicles down right now?

The November 4 maintenance ran from 09:00 PT (17:00 UTC) for about three hours and was marked completed at 19:53 UTC. Update the game in your Steam Library before you launch. XLGAMES posts new maintenance on its Steam news page and its official X account, @ArcheAgeChron.

What is the level cap in ArcheAge Chronicles?

XLGAMES hasn’t stated one in its Steam announcements or on the store page as of November 4. Levels give stat points, but trait points come from Coilstones, so level alone isn’t the main measure of power.

Can I play with friends on a different server?

No. Cross-server play isn’t supported and character transfers aren’t available in Early Access, so pick the same server when you create characters.

Does ArcheAge Chronicles work on Steam Deck?

Linux and Steam Deck aren’t officially supported. XLGAMES says it will “continue to evaluate” them. The game is Windows-only on Steam.
