Sunny Lab’s Oct 19 patch fixes the Estelle heart lock, Mawuli’s blocked event and Daniel’s energy bug. Plus who the cozy Paris RPG is for and its $17.99 sale.

The Witch’s Bakery patch 1.2 is out, and the headline fix is the one romance fans were waiting for: the bug that could lock Estelle’s relationship for good went live at 3pm French time (13:00 UTC) on October 19, according to developer Sunny Lab. The patch itself landed on Steam earlier the same day with a list of story, heart-event and puzzle fixes, and the studio says another patch is coming this week.

The Paris bakery RPG launched on October 14 for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, so patch 1.2 arrives five days after release.

What The Witch’s Bakery patch 1.2 fixes

According to Sunny Lab’s v1.2 patch notes on Steam (posted 11:02 UTC on October 19):

  • Park outings with Daniel now restore the right amount of energy (200, not 150).
  • Mawuli’s first heart is no longer blocked between May 7 and May 13 in the game’s calendar, and he no longer floats in mid-air in his apartment during that event.
  • One Anger Heart Dive (the maze-style emotion puzzles) now has an extra possible path.
  • A phone dialogue in Chapter 3 no longer loops its audio.
  • Lunne no longer smiles in tense scenes.
  • The customisation shop is locked during tense story moments.
  • Typos fixed in English, French and Chinese.

The patch notes were posted on Steam. Sunny Lab hasn’t said whether the Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation and Xbox versions get the same fixes on the same day, so console players should check for an update before assuming they have them.

The Estelle romance bug: what happened and what to do

On October 17, Sunny Lab warned players about a path that could lock Estelle’s second heart forever. It happens at the theater date she offers once her second heart is filling: if you go with her straight away, an early dialogue choice decides it. The top option, where Lunne says “You’ve always struck me as a poet”, is safe. The bottom “humbling” option triggered the lock.

The fix stops new playthroughs from hitting the bug. If your save was already locked, the studio’s post (updated on October 19) still points to its manual workaround for the PC version: back up the Save.lunne file in the game’s Slot_0 save folder, find Estelle’s entry and change relationshipLevelsLocked from true to false. Sunny Lab notes the skipped theater scene doesn’t come back, but her later events do. There’s no file edit on consoles, so affected Switch, PlayStation or Xbox players are better off contacting the studio through its Discord server, which Sunny Lab points players to for bug help.

Who The Witch’s Bakery is for

If you missed the launch: you play Lunne, a young witch who runs a bakery in modern Paris and can heal people’s emotions with her bread. Days are split into baking and serving, evenings exploring Paris and building friendships, and nights improving her magic. Sunny Lab cites Kiki’s Delivery Service and Persona 5 as inspirations and puts the playtime at about 15 hours.

It’s worth your time if you like story-heavy cozy games with relationship meters, light time management and puzzle sections. Nintendo Life gave the Switch 2 version 8/10, praising the hand-drawn art and the mental-health storylines, but it flagged clunky Atelier minigame controls on Switch 2 (some menus wanted Joy-Con mouse mode) and thin accessibility settings. The game also carries content warnings for darker themes. On Steam it sits at Very Positive, with 95% of 257 reviews positive (checked October 19, 21:45 UTC).
