Why Cyberpunk 2077 is the most disappointing game of this year

CDPR created a Bug Montage of Cyberpunk 2077 A Few Months before release
Written by Ankit Gaba

Cyberpunk 2077 was announced back in 2012 after many years of development and a high budget. Everyone had high expectations from the game. It was hyped to death. It was delayed many times, but everyone complained about how unfinished it is when it was finally released some days ago. People even got “Cyberbug 2077” trending on Twitter, and it is still trending.

Another thing that makes it worse is that CDPR received a grant from the Polish Government in 2016, you can read more about it here.

Cyberbug 2077 trending after Cyberpunk 2077 release
CDPR said that Cyberpunk 2077 is a whole different game after the day one patch, but it looks like things did not change that much. Even the HDR is not completely functional. Don’t even get me started on the console port.

Let’s discuss what went wrong with Cyberpunk.

Unfinished and Downgraded:

Cyberpunk 2077 was released unfinished CDPR relied on the “Day One Patch.” Still, even that was not enough to fix all the issues. Here is a video of Broken A.I. in Cyberpunk.

It just feels so unfinished. The way people walk and things like that does not feel natural at all. Then the character clips through the ground. This is not what you expect after 9 years of development and a developer with a big reputation such as CD Projekt Red, and this is not even the worst thing happening to people at the moment. Cyberpunk keeps crashing around every 20-30 minutes even after the big one day patch; many people are refunding the game already CDPR’s stocks are going down as well.

You can see in the video below that even the car AI is terrible. It just runs around in circles. I have also seen that the NPC walk from one position to the next position. When they are interrupted, they do not die but end up in a T pose position, which is very weird.

Bugs are an important issue in Cyberpunk 2077 currently, but except that there are even more issues present in the RPG gameplay side and some other stuff related to that, we are gonna talk about that next.

CDPR said that the console version ran fine a while ago. Our friends at Alt Char covered everything related to that. Another thing Cyberpunk 2077 does wrong is the customization. You cannot even change your hairstyle. Even though CDPR advertised a poster that said, “it doesn’t matter if you are dead as long as you are in style,” there is no big emphasis on fashion or style at all. There are nearly no RPG mechanics present in the game that really affect the gameplay even though Cyberpunk 2077 was advertised as an Open-World RPG.

Another lie about Cyberpunk 2077 was about the Brain Dance mechanic used in a single mission even though CDPR stated that it is a “Big Part” of Cyberpunk 2077’s universe. Another fishy thing is that they sent Cyberpunk 2077 review keys for the only PC. They might not have wanted terrible reviews for Consoles to ruin their sales. It seems very fishy, honestly, because Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the worst ports on consoles. Hopefully, the next-gen version improves something in 2021. They should have just canceled the current-gen version. They just did it for money. It seems “We Leave Greed To Others” that quote by CDPR has aged like milk.

Just look at the downgrade in the image. The textures are so blurry. Cyberpunk 2077 had many potentials, but it seems like that potential is nothing but false marketing by CD Projekt Red.

Some people are calling Cyberpunk 2077 “The Biggest Scam in Gaming History” I personally think that statement might be true; I have seen some people say that “Consoles like PlayStation 4 cannot run games like Cyberpunk 2077 properly” Rockstar Games managed to make an ultra-realistic game with a decent performance on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and Red Dead Redemption 2 had a vast open-world which felt alive unlike the one in Cyberpunk 2077 which feels static and unnatural every time. CDPR had all the money forced their employees to crunch and a lot of hype surrounding them, yet they still could not deliver properly with Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a shame that with all those resources, hard work, and marketing budget, the result looked like this.

You can see Cyberpunk crashing every 1-2 hours in the image above, but the situation is worse on PC for people without SDD. It crashes even more.
Don’t even get me started on the FPS. It dips to 12 sometimes on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is not playable at all. I’m glad that Sony accepts refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 because it turned out to be a huge disappointment for many people, including me.

Look at the animation of the character in the video above. It just remains in a static position. This isn’t what you expect from a game that has been in development since 2012 and had a 350 Million Budget. As I mentioned before, if CDPR weren’t able to make a proper PS4 and Xbox One port, they should have just made it a next-gen exclusive don’t even get me started on “bigger player base” that’s just greed they want you to play an unfinished product and the next-gen version isn’t even out yet Xbox Series X and PS5 play the current-gen version at the time. Yeah, I get that the graphics are worse on consoles, but what about the A.I.? It isn’t good on both PC and Consoles.

The missions start feeling like a chore. It’s like they just wanted to put in filler content. The story had potential, but there are filler missions all over the game.
Melee combat is something else, too it doesn’t even work properly, and the animations on Melee combat aren’t satisfying at all. Recently, an indie game called “Ghostrunner” did melee combat similar to what was supposed to be in Cyberpunk, and it turns out that they did it even better with fewer resources and budget.

What CDPR did is just wrong. They are straight-up ripping off the people with an unfinished game. CDPR even cut many features to improve performance but still couldn’t make the game run properly. They cut third-person cutscenes, car customization, interactive subway, and Wall running, yet the game still has a performance like this.

Here’s a video made by someone comparing Cyberpunk 2077’s AI to GTA V’s AI

It’s funny how GTA V was made on Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 and still had better A.I. and a better open-world as well, and it had more things you could interact with. Meanwhile, you have Cyberpunk, which looks like a PS3 game on a PS4 with many bugs and issues.
Cyberpunk 2077 was clearly rushed despite all the delays and crunch. They should have just canceled the current generation port if they couldn’t make one properly, even on PC; these issues are still present. This game is definitely undercooked. Many of my friends bought it on PC and dropped it a day later, not just because of bugs alone but because the missions started “feeling like a chore” it’s embarrassing how a highly regarded developer such as CDPR could rush this game; I mean this is the same developer that did not release Witcher 3 on Xbox 360 and PS3 because it could not run properly. Look at how times have changed now. They just released Cyberpunk 2077, which cannot run properly on consoles.

Even though CD Projekt Red are trying their best to make more patches, but this means that the developers will have to crunch even more to fix these issues, and at some point, some developers stop patching a game because they have already earned a lot of money from it. I mean, Cyberpunk’s profit has already exceeded the expectations of CD Projekt Red. I would not be surprised if they stop patching it at one point and start working on stuff like the multiplayer more. They have already announced that they have been working on two more projects related to Cyberpunk 2077. I would not be surprised if they either cancel these projects or stop working on Patches because there’s only one thing that CD Projekt Red can do currently, considering their situation.

Some people think that CD Projekt Red is already working on a sequel for Cyberpunk 2077. If that case is true then oh boy, it’s so embarrassing to see a company like CDPR do this. Imagine if Cyberpunk 2077 were released in April without all the delays, then the situation would have been even worse. They should have just delayed Cyberpunk 2077 like a year or two. For example, Rockstar games have done this once with Red Dead Redemption 2. It was supposed to release in 2017 but was delayed to 2018. Another great move would have been was to delay the game to an unannounced date and announce the release date when the game is properly finished, but here we are now where Cyberpunk 2077 has already been released and is a massive dumpster fire at the moment. I hope that CD Projekt Red can fix all the issues present in the game. Good luck to them.
