Sucker Punch has explained how it brought Jin Sakai, the hero of Ghost of Tsushima, back as a playable character in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted, the roguelike combat mode that arrived on PS5 on October 1 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. In a PlayStation Blog post published November 4, six team members describe rebuilding Jin’s animations, stances, armor and voice. The post adds no new content or date; the mode is already out.

How Most Wanted works
According to Sucker Punch’s September 3 reveal post, each run starts at a bounty board. Every bounty targets a member of the Yōtei Six, with waves of enemies and minibosses in the way, and you pick perks after each wave to build toward the final boss. Bounties replay at higher difficulty, ending with the hardest one against Lord Saito. Mon earned in runs unlocks techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and characters, and cosmetics earned in Most Wanted carry over to the main game.
Jin plays with all four of his Ghost of Tsushima stances and starts with a Sticky Bomb and a hankyu (short bow). His Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance.

Why Sucker Punch brought back “all of Jin”
Systems Design Lead Parker Hamilton writes that the team prototyped Most Wanted with other characters first. After an early playtest with Jin, Lead Combat Designer Ted Fishman concluded that “there wasn’t a partial implementation that would deliver the fantasy of playing as Jin.” As Hamilton puts it: “if we were to push forward, we had to bring back all of Jin.”
What changed in Jin’s combat
Programmer Nate Slottow says Jin’s 60+ attack animations, most with their own kill animations, were retargeted to the new character rig and rebalanced for Yōtei’s systems. One move needed reining in: Stone Stance’s Piercing Strike “decimated everything in Yōtei as originally implemented.” Senior Staff Animator Mark Wheeler made custom strafe animations for each stance to fit Yōtei’s Focus Attack model.
Several perks recreate how Jin played in Tsushima, where a well-timed block interrupted enemy combos:
- Rattling Parry: more Stagger damage on successful parries, so Parry Interrupt triggers more often.
- Perfect Parry perks: a group of perks that reward Perfect Parries.
- Empowering Quickfire: rewards following a Quickfire with melee.
- Wind perks: a nod to Jin’s connection with the wind.
Wheeler adds that the team revived Jin’s idle actions, put his rarely seen “bird hold idle” in the Most Wanted menu, and based his character-select animation on the Tsushima scene where he first recovers the storm blade.

New look, new theme, same voice
Character Artist Nate Ramsey says much of Jin’s original armor model, created by artist Emre Ekmekci, still held up. The work went into matching Atsu’s fidelity: updated materials, retuned skin, a sharper scar and new normal maps. Production Art Director Joanna Wang notes that Jin was first made for PS4 while Yōtei “was built entirely for PS5.” She says his gestures are back too, like pushing the tsuba with his thumb before a duel and wiping blood from his blade.
Audio Director Rev. Dr. Brad Meyer says Heavenly Slash, Dance of Wrath and Ghost Stance were revived from Tsushima’s assets, and a new version of Jin’s theme was recorded with Justin Johnson on lap steel guitar. Sound designer Chris Walasek rebuilt Jin’s armor movement sounds for Yōtei’s new system. Daisuke Tsuji returned to voice Jin, recording confrontations with each Yōtei Six member, and Meyer says the sessions “even allowed us to sneak a few Jin lines into the main game.”
What’s next
The post doesn’t announce more characters, bounties or further Most Wanted updates.
