Every official FM27 change vs FM26: Tactical Effectiveness, Tactical Tweaks, training, Shuffle Draft, new Saudi and French licences and PC specs side by side.

Football Manager 27’s biggest new features are Tactical Effectiveness (a system that scores how well your squad can execute your tactic), real-time Tactical Tweaks from the touchline, a training overhaul and a reworked interface that moves navigation back into menus after FM26’s tile-and-card design. Sports Interactive has also announced two new league licences, the Arkema Première Ligue and the Roshn Saudi League. On PC, the requirements barely change from FM26: the processor and graphics cards are the same, but minimum RAM rises from 4 GB to 6 GB and older macOS versions are dropped.

Everything below comes from Sports Interactive and SEGA’s feature deep dives, licence announcements and the Steam pages for FM27 and FM26 (checked October 28, 2026). For the Launch Preview start times and who gets in, see our FM27 Launch Preview start time guide; this page covers what is actually new in the game.

FM27 vs FM26: what changed at a glance

Several FM27 changes answer FM26 criticism: studio director Miles Jacobson wrote in May that FM26’s interface changes “weren’t well received by everyone” and that immersion was the main focus for the next release (footballmanager.com, May 11, 2026).

Football Manager 27 new features explained

Tactical Effectiveness and Tactical Complexity

This is the system SI puts first on the FM27 features page. According to the training and Tactical Effectiveness deep dive, it is built on four areas:

  • Tactical Understanding
  • Player Ability
  • Player Buy In
  • Next Match Information

Each one shows up as a gauge on the Tactics, Training and Recruitment screens, and Tactical Effectiveness also appears in Scout Reports. Alongside it, Tactical Complexity measures how many team, player and opposition instructions you have set. SI’s example: relentless counter-pressing “may prove to be too complicated” at lower-league level. A simple system may work sooner; a complex one takes longer to learn.

Training overhaul

Training becomes a primary menu area, copying schedules is back and the planner shows player load for the weeks ahead. SI says the senior squad now trains mainly for match preparation, cohesion and tactical understanding, with new sessions for things like pressing or build-up play, while individual training means balancing a wonderkid’s development against short-term results.

Tactical Tweaks and new Player Instructions

The match engine deep dive describes Tactical Tweaks as team or individual changes you make during a match without opening the Tactics screen. SI’s examples are:

  • Individual: wingers swap sides, or the goalkeeper joins a last-minute attack.
  • Team: play with more urgency, go longer with passes, exploit width or reduce the press.

Tweaks stay on until you turn them off, and there is no cap on how many can be active, although some contradict each other. Staff advise when to start or stop one.

New Player Instructions control how a player attacks the box: arrive late or attack the defensive line, aiming at the near post, far post or centre. SI says players with high Anticipation and Off The Ball make the best runs.

Match engine: speed, stamina and defending

SI used Hawk-Eye Innovations data and motion capture to rework player speed and acceleration. The attribute changes affect team selection:

Attribute What SI says changes in FM27
Flair, Dribbling Unlock new skill moves (body feints, Elasticos, Heel Chops) and more creative attacks
Stamina Bigger effect on repeated sprints and on condition across 90 minutes; substitutes can matter more
Marking, Anticipation Carry more weight in 1v1 defending, which now uses new jockeying movements
Anticipation, Off The Ball Decide how smart attacking runs into the box are

Heat Maps and Action Zones return, eight per-90 stats such as xG and xA get more decimal precision, passes are split into Short, Medium and Long, and the 2D view gets smaller ball and player discs.

Interface and navigation

The interface deep dive lists these changes:

  • Renamed primary menus with drop-downs, and a control panel at the top of each area for its key actions.
  • Fewer cards and more full-screen views, so you close fewer windows.
  • Colour-coded messages that contain the item itself, such as the full scout report.
  • Ultrawide support, plus scaling modes for 1440p and 4K monitors. SI later renamed them Large, Medium and Small.
  • Editable shortcuts, re-orderable bookmarks and tile swapping.

A deeper football world: Cup Draws, Deadline Day, transfers

Per the football world deep dive, Cup Draws and Transfer Deadline Day return. Agent offers now appear on the Recruitment screen throughout the window instead of only on deadline day. Young players weigh game time more heavily, so the “treat club as a stepping stone” promise is worth more in negotiations. Sell-on fees now show in Scout Reports and push asking prices up. The Club, Competition and Nation screens are redesigned, and a new Continue Flow setting (Streamlined, Balanced, Comprehensive or Custom) controls how often the game stops.

Match day presentation

The match day deep dive covers rebuilt crowds in replica shirts and weather-appropriate layers, the widest range of stadium stands and roofs in the series, a time-of-day system (a winter afternoon game can finish under floodlights), wet and snow-covered pitches, more varied cutscene camera angles, and player models with muscle detail and hair physics.

Shuffle Draft multiplayer

Shuffle Draft, made with FIFAe, reimagines the Fantasy Draft mode from earlier games. The main numbers:

Setting Options
Players 2-32, online (public or private) or offline with AI managers
Formats Knockout Cup (2-32), Group + Knockout (8, 16 or 32), League (2-20)
Player pools Presets such as World’s Best, Wonderkids, Veterans and Lower League Legends, or a custom pool; men’s or women’s players, not mixed
Squad size 14, 16, 18 or 20
Re-Drafts Off, or up to 5, each with up to 20 returns or removals

Players pick from 20-man sets at the same time, and injuries and fatigue are cleared between matches.

Manager Creator, newgens and other upgrades

The Manager Creator adds more body types, hats, scarves and gloves, up to four favourite clubs and the option of a manager who uses an electric wheelchair, while newgen faces get more detail and variety. SI also lists a full-screen In-Game Editor, the NXGN 50 wonderkid list inside its message, a concussion protocol that needs a neurologist’s clearance, four new player status flags, the Daylight Offside rule trialled in the Canadian Premier League, and more than 18 million database changes and 1,500 competition updates (deeper world upgrades deep dive).

FM27 licences: what’s new and what’s confirmed

SI’s deep dive says FM27 introduces two new licensed leagues, and it has announced two:

Licence Announced What’s included
Arkema Première Ligue (France, women) October 19, 2026 Official club logos, kits and player photos
Roshn Saudi League October 27, 2026 All 18 clubs with official logos, kits and player photos; playable nations rise to 59

Sources: the Arkema Première Ligue announcement and the Roshn Saudi League announcement. SI also says 19 licensors and partners have branded in-game backgrounds.

For comparison, SI called FM26’s line-up “the biggest suite of fully-licensed leagues, clubs, and competitions in series’ history”. It included the Premier League and FIFA competitions as new licences, plus nine new licensors in the women’s game (FM26 licences list). As of October 28, SI had not published a full FM27 licence list, so which FM26 licences carry over is not yet confirmed. The Launch Preview announcement also warns that the preview “contains information that is still under approval process by right holders”, so some club and player assets may be missing until launch.

Digital versions and the physical PC edition release on November 10, 2026; the physical PS5 edition follows on November 20. Unlike FM26, there is no Switch version, and none for Xbox One. FM26 Touch on the App Store updates to FM27 Touch automatically (Apple Arcade announcement).

FM27 had no price on Steam when we checked on October 28; pre-purchase opens on October 29 with 10% off. FM26 is listed at $59.99 on Steam.

What these features mean for your first save

Going by SI’s descriptions, judge signings on their Tactical Effectiveness as well as ability, keep instructions simple in lower-league saves so Tactical Complexity stays low, and value Stamina more than before, especially for wing-backs and pressing forwards. Our Football Manager 2024 tactics guide and FM Mobile best tactics guide still explain the formations most players start from, and our Supermarket Simulator pricing guide is next if you like tuning numbers in other management sims.
