Not too long after it shockingly sold the most amount of sales after its return on the PS Store, the critically polarizing 2020 title Cyberpunk 2077 has left the chart, nowhere at all to be seen in the top 20. Thanks to a report from PlayStation Universe, CD Projekt Red’s latest title, which topped the June 2021 chart for sales, is no longer anywhere near that, with its sudden disappearance marking an almost immediate decline in sales and likely its player base. Cyberpunk, despite heavy criticism, still managed to be one of the most well-known and commercially successful titles of 2020, largely due to the lengthy marketing campaign and many promises the studio made prior to its release.
It made headlines when Sony erased Cyberpunk from the PS store not too long after its release; with the Its sudden disappearance from the chart is rather shocking, especially with its initial chart-topping success previously, but with Sony themselves warning players that playing on the last generation of consoles was not recommended in addition to the notoriously terrible console launch, it isn’t that hard to see why the sales dropped so dramatically. Cyberpunk 2077 was released positive reviews on PC platforms, but its console release still remains one of the worst launches in gaming history. But despite that, the studio continues on, trying to support the title through its addition to the PS store once more. Time will tell whether or not the game manages to reach the success it initially desired in terms of critical reception, but either way, the game still managed to sell a lot early on in its life.
