Dynamax Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf debut in five-star Max Battles at Pokémon GO Max Battle Day on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time. Which one you can battle depends on where you play: Uxie in Asia-Pacific, Mesprit in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, and Azelf in the Americas and Greenland. All three are pure Psychic types, so Ghost and Dark Max attackers such as Gigantamax Gengar and Gigantamax Grimmsnarl are the counters to build. An optional US$4.99 ticket adds a Max Mushroom, 25,000 XP and 6,400 Max Particles, according to the official Pokémon GO announcement (checked October 21, 2026, 05:15 UTC).

Which Lake Guardian appears in your region
Like their regular raid appearances, the three Lake Guardians are split by region for this Max Battle Day. Each one is a five-star Max Battle boss at Power Spots during the three-hour window. Pokémon GO Hub’s event guide lists the CP range you’ll see on the catch screen, which is handy for spotting a perfect one without an appraisal.
| Pokémon | Region | Catch CP range (100% IV) | Charged Attack to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamax Uxie | Asia-Pacific | 1,370 to 1,442 (1,442) | Thunder (Electric) |
| Dynamax Mesprit | Europe, Middle East, Africa, India | 1,669 to 1,747 (1,747) | Blizzard (Ice) |
| Dynamax Azelf | Americas and Greenland | 1,752 to 1,834 (1,834) | Fire Blast (Fire) |
The Charged Attack column comes from the trio’s standard Pokémon GO movesets (Confusion or Extrasensory as Fast Attacks; Swift, Future Sight and one coverage move each), as listed by Dexerto’s Lake Guardian guide and the Pokémon GO wiki. Niantic hasn’t published Max Battle movesets for this debut, so treat the coverage moves as the likely threat rather than a guarantee.
The trio first appeared as Sinnoh’s lake spirits in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which came back as the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes.
Pokémon GO Max Battle Day times and bonuses
Some bonuses run all morning before the battles start, so the day really begins at midnight. Every row below is from the official post.
| Bonus | When it’s active |
|---|---|
| 2× Max Particles from exploring; 1/4 Adventuring distance for Max Particles | Oct 24, 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local |
| Max Particle collection limit raised to 1,600 | During the event |
| All Power Spots host Dynamax battles; more Power Spots; faster refresh | During the event |
| 8× Max Particles from Power Spots | During the event |
| Two extra Special Trades (three in total for the day) | During the event |
| Daily Remote Raid limit raised from 10 to 20 | Oct 23, 5:00 p.m. to Oct 24, 8:00 p.m. PDT (Oct 24, 00:00 UTC to Oct 25, 03:00 UTC) |
| Ticket Timed Research and 2× Max Battle XP | Oct 24, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local |
One condition is easy to miss: the exploring bonuses only apply after you’ve collected all the Max Particles already waiting in the Nearby menu. Normally you can collect 800 particles a day and spend 800 to enter a five-star Max Battle, per the Pokémon GO wiki. Particles are only used up if your team wins, so a failed attempt costs you time but not particles.
Best counters for Dynamax Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf
Max Battles work differently from raids. Your Max Attack’s type comes from your Dynamax Pokémon’s Fast Attack, while Gigantamax Pokémon have a fixed type and hit harder. Teams of up to four Trainers each bring three Max Pokémon, as explained in Pokémon GO Hub’s Max Battles guide. Psychic is weak to Bug, Ghost and Dark. Ghost and Dark Max Attacks hit pure Psychic bosses equally hard, so you can mix the two freely.
Attackers (use them in the Max Phase)
The damage figures come from Pokémon GO Hub’s Dynamax Weavile analysis (October 19, 2026). It compares Max Attack damage against Dynamax Weavile, assuming 15 Attack IVs and equal Max Attack levels.
| Attacker | Max Attack type | Damage vs. Dynamax Weavile | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gigantamax Gengar | Ghost | +37% | Best option available; fixed Ghost-type G-Max move |
| Gigantamax Grimmsnarl | Dark | +20.5% | Top Dark attacker |
| Dynamax Gengar | Ghost | +7% | Needs a Ghost-type Fast Attack |
| Dynamax Hydreigon | Dark | +5% | Needs a Dark-type Fast Attack |
| Dynamax Urshifu (Single Strike) | Dark | +4.3% | With Sucker Punch |
| Dynamax Weavile | Dark | baseline | Feint Attack or Snarl; fragile, so switch in just before the Max Phase |
Bug attacks are also super effective. But Azelf’s Fire Blast punishes Bug types, and none of the attackers at the top of Hub’s current list is Bug type, so most players will get more out of Ghost and Dark. If you caught Dynamax Sneasel during this week’s Max Monday, evolving it into Weavile gives you a usable Dark attacker without a Gigantamax.
Tanks and healers for each boss
Your tank holds the boss’s attention during the slow part of the fight. The boss always targets the Pokémon with the most Max Guard shields, so one player who stacks Guard protects everyone else. Hub’s guide favours bulky defenders with fast attacks that resist the boss’s moves. The table matches Hub’s defender list against each Lake Guardian’s likely coverage move.
| Boss | Good tanks | Why | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uxie | Latias, Metagross | Latias resists Psychic and Electric (Thunder); Metagross double-resists Psychic | Water and Flying tanks such as Suicune or Corviknight (weak to Thunder) |
| Mesprit | Metagross, Registeel, Melmetal | Steel resists both Psychic and Ice (Blizzard) | Latias (weak to Ice) |
| Azelf | Latias, Suicune | Both resist Fire Blast; Latias also resists Psychic | Steel tanks such as Registeel, Metagross, Melmetal and Zacian (weak to Fire) |
For healing, Hub ranks high-HP Pokémon with a levelled-up Max Spirit highest: Blissey first, then Regidrago, Wailord, Snorlax, Lapras and Vaporeon. A Metagross that knows Shadow Claw does double duty, resisting the boss and charging the Max meter with a super effective Fast Attack.
Is the $4.99 Max Battle Day ticket worth it?
The ticket unlocks event-only Timed Research that runs from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. local time. It isn’t needed to join the battles or catch the Lake Guardians. Here’s what the money buys:
| Ticket reward | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| 1 Max Mushroom | Doubles your Pokémon’s damage in Max Battles for 30 minutes (Pokémon GO wiki) |
| 6,400 Max Particles | Enough for eight five-star Max Battle entries at 800 each |
| 25,000 XP | Flat XP from the research |
| 2× XP from Max Battles | Stacks up if you battle for most of the three hours |
Buy it if you have a group lined up for most of the window. The 6,400 particles alone cover eight wins, which is far more than the 1,600 you can collect on the day. Then save the Max Mushroom for a run of back-to-back battles so none of its 30 minutes go to waste. Skip it if you’ll only manage one or two battles. The free bonuses (8× Power Spot particles and the 1,600 limit) already cover a couple of entries.
If you do buy, the Pokémon GO Web Store’s Ultra Ticket Box costs the same US$4.99 and adds 800 Max Particles on top of the ticket, so it’s the better deal, according to the official post. The in-game ticket can’t be bought with PokéCoins, purchases are non-refundable, and you can gift tickets to friends at Great Friends level or higher. The in-game shop stops selling it at 5:00 p.m. local time on October 24.
Game plan for Saturday
- Friday evening: level up the Max Attack on your Gengar or Grimmsnarl and the Max Guard on your tank. Max Move upgrades cost Max Particles plus Candy, so do it before you need the particles for battles.
- Saturday morning (from midnight): claim everything in the Nearby menu first, then walk. The exploring bonuses only start once that menu is empty.
- Before 2:00 p.m.: find a group. The in-game map shows where Max Battles might appear, and Community Ambassador meetups are listed under nearby events. Max Battles can also be joined remotely with a Remote Raid Pass plus the usual particles, a feature Niantic added in May 2025. Playing in person gives extra XP and Premier Balls.
- During the window: start with your tank and use only Fast Attacks to charge the Max meter. Swipe sideways to dodge when three white lines appear over your Pokémon, then switch to your attacker when the Max Phase timer starts.
- After 5:00 p.m.: the Orionids Minior Showers event is still running that evening (peak spawns 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. local, ending at 11:59 p.m.), so you can go straight from Max Battles to Minior hunting.

Also coming up: Morelull is the Spotlight Hour Pokémon on Thursday, October 22, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local with 2× catch Stardust, according to Pokémon GO Hub’s weekly schedule. Three days after Max Battle Day, Pokémon GO Halloween 2026 Part I starts on Tuesday, October 27, with costumed Pikachu, Zubat and Sinistea. For more relaxed Pokémon fun, our list of games like Pokopia covers cozy creature collectors on other platforms.
FAQ
Can I get Dynamax Uxie if I don’t live in Asia-Pacific?
Not from your local Power Spots. The official post ties each Lake Guardian to one region. The legal route is trading: a Legendary Pokémon trade is a Special Trade, and the event raises the limit to three for the day, which makes it a good time to swap with a friend in another region.
Can Dynamax Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf be Shiny?
Yes. The official announcement says you may encounter a Shiny one “if you’re lucky”. Niantic hasn’t published the odds.
Do I need the ticket to battle the Lake Guardians?
No. The US$4.99 ticket only adds the Timed Research rewards and 2× Max Battle XP. Battles and catches are open to everyone with enough Max Particles.
How many players do I need for a five-star Max Battle?
A team can have up to four Trainers. Five-star Legendary bosses are built for a full team with levelled Max Moves, so a group of four with one dedicated tank gives you the best chance.
