The best Madden 27 Franchise mode tips come down to one new system: the Persona Engine. It gives every player his own personality, so stars can hold out, demand trades and push for new deals with years left on their contracts. Madden NFL 27 came out on August 13, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. This guide uses EA’s Franchise Deep Dive and the title updates up to October 21, 2026 (checked November 2, 2026) to cover settings, scouting, progression, contracts and trades. Tips from players are labelled as community advice.
- Start a new league after the October 21 update. EA says you need a new league to get all of that patch’s salary-cap fixes.
- In negotiations, watch Patience and Interest. If Patience hits 0 the talks end. Get Interest to 100 and the player signs.
- Handle unhappy players early. A holdout can turn into a trade demand, but talking to the player can change his mind.
- Free Agent Frenzy rewards the best offer, not the fastest one. Offers are judged together when the round advances, and since September 16 the top offer wins far more often.
- Progression works the same as in Madden 26, according to EA’s launch FAQ. Abilities now come in tiers that improve as ratings rise.
- Franchise has no paid progression, EA says. Pre-order Franchise Points and Staff Points only work if your commissioner allows them.

What’s new in Madden 27 Franchise mode
Lead designer Josh Looman calls this “the biggest year over year change” he can remember in more than 20 years at EA. The systems that change how you plan a save:
| Feature | What EA says it does | What it means for your save |
|---|---|---|
| Persona Engine | More than 65 types of Persona DNA set each player’s mindset, career focus and reactions. Players can also pick up temporary DNA. | Two players in the same spot can react differently, so check DNA before you make a big decision. |
| Emergent Actions | These replace Madden 26’s weekly flow. Each one is a decision, such as a role talk, a contract issue or a roster question. | You can hand them to staff and see their plan before you confirm. |
| Contract overhaul | Guaranteed money, void years, incentives, no-trade clauses, custom structures and longer street free agent deals. | Contracts look like real NFL deals, and so do the cap problems that come with them. |
| Supersim retune | Ratings and roster quality count for more than playbooks. Teams change their playbooks to fit their personnel. | Simmed seasons follow the talent on your roster, not your scheme. |
Best Madden 27 Franchise settings for a new league
Several options are set when you create a league, and some of the October 21 fixes only apply to new leagues. These are the settings EA has described in its notes:
| Setting or choice | Per EA | Suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| New league vs old save | October 21 update: start a new league to get every salary-cap change. | If your league began before October 21 and the cap feels broken, restart. |
| Pre-order bonuses | Commissioners decide in League Settings whether pre-order Franchise Points and Staff Points are allowed. | In an online league, agree on this before day one so everyone starts equal. |
| Free Agent Frenzy rounds | Up to 12 rounds of bidding, set by the commissioner. | More rounds give more time to react to rival bids. |
| Salary Cap | Can be turned off. Since October 21, max contracts and the over-the-cap warning work correctly with the cap off. | Leave it on for a realistic save. Turn it off for a casual one. |
| Wear and Tear | Can be turned off. Since October 21, CPU players no longer show its effects when it is off. | Leave it on if you want to plan rest and workload. |
| Coach Mode | The CPU plays after the snap. Options: Auto Quarterback, Auto Snap, Coach Suggestions, Pre-Play Cutoff and Pre-Play Audio. | Try it if you only want to call plays. Pre-Play Cutoff closes the menu with 15 seconds left on the play clock. |
| Coach archetype | The College Coach Archetype unlocks if you play College Football 27 Dynasty. It brings six head-coach-only abilities. | Pick it when you create a new league. EA says the August 26 fix doesn’t unlock the abilities for coaches made before it. |
The six College Coach abilities EA lists are Campus Conditioning, Coach’s Curriculum, Familiar Landscape, Drill Efficiency, New School and Power Program. EA hasn’t published recommended slider values. Slider sets online are player-made, so test them in your own league.
How to win contract negotiations in Madden 27
Negotiations are now a short minigame, not a set of sliders. EA’s deep dive explains that talks can start with salary and then move to guarantees, contract length or the player’s role, depending on his personality. Each choice raises or lowers Patience and Interest. The talks end if Patience reaches 0. The player signs if Interest reaches 100.
- Set your own opening offer. After beta feedback, EA lets you set Years, Salary and Bonus before talks begin. You can also see your depth at the position and the full offer breakdown.
- Read his DNA first. The negotiation screen shows ratings, Persona DNA and stats, so you don’t need to leave it to learn about the player.
- Don’t withdraw and come back cheaply. Since September 16, pulling an offer and starting again lowers both Interest and Patience. If Interest is already low, the player can refuse to talk at all.
- Expect players to ask early. A player can now ask for a new deal outside his final contract year. The “Wants Contract Extension” mindset card in the weekly hub was fixed on September 16.
- Use the new readout. Since October 21, extension talks show a “Next Year’s Cap” figure. Check it before you add guaranteed money.
Community tip: a games.gg rebuild guide (August 15) says a bigger upfront signing bonus can close deals that a higher yearly salary can’t. That is player experience, not an EA rule.

Free Agent Frenzy and tags: how to win the offseason
Frenzy squeezes the first 12 hours of NFL free agency into a live event you play hour by hour.
- Offers resolve when the round advances. Every offer made in a round is compared at once on terms, fit and rival teams. Nobody, including the CPU, signs mid-round. Your pending bids carry an “Offer Submitted” tag, and you can withdraw one before the round ends.
- Top players sign first. Since September 16, players judge offers on fit and total value, and they decide in OVR order.
- Check who you’re bidding against. A player’s info shows the teams interested in him, and the salary cap chart now includes Cap Hold.
- Use the second window. After the draft, undrafted rookie free agents get their own Frenzy. That’s the time to fix any depth you missed in the draft.
| Tool | What it does (per EA) | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Exclusive Franchise Tag | Keeps the player on your team. | Your star can’t be allowed to talk to anyone else. |
| Non-Exclusive Franchise Tag | Other teams can bid. You get two first-round picks if you lose him. | You would accept two firsts for him. |
| Transition Tag | You can match any offer. | You want to see his market price first. |
| RFA tenders | First round, second round, original round and right of first refusal, each with matching pick compensation. | Keeping young players cheaply. Rival teams must decide if a pick is worth paying. |
Since October 21, the game won’t let you offer less than the required tag values. CPU teams also stopped signing low-value players with a non-exclusive tag.
Madden 27 scouting and draft tips
Scouting now sits in the new Roster Management center, along with your roster, depth chart, free agency and trades. EA closed two beta loopholes before launch. Dev Traits are now hidden for undrafted free agents, and a wording exploit that revealed traits during scouting was fixed. A new Draft Ticker shows every pick live.
- Know how CPU draft trades work. On August 26, EA listed a known issue: CPU teams only made draft trades when you simmed the draft, not when you watched live picks. The September 16 notes still list it as a work in progress; the October 21 notes don’t mention it, so simming the draft may still bring more CPU trades.
- Custom draft classes work again. Since October 21, you can download and import them through Franchise and the Download Center.
- Community tip: games.gg suggests scouting heavily before every draft to find hidden-trait prospects worth trading up for.
Player progression and Wear and Tear
EA’s launch FAQ says progression is “identical to Madden NFL 26”. What’s new is tiered player abilities. Players enter the league with ability tiers based on their real-life performance, and the tiers rise as their ratings improve. Your coach levels up with Staff Points earned in each league. Franchise Points, a new reward on the free Team Pass track, also progress your coach.
- Multi-season sims are more realistic now. The October 21 update fixed excessive progression in multi-season sims and players retiring too early. Since September 16, high-OVR quarterbacks are less likely to retire in their early 30s, and halfbacks are less likely to retire young.
- Plan rest for your workhorses. EA says workload, rest and usage now have bigger effects over a full season. A running back who never gets a breather “is going to feel it down the stretch”. Since August 26, CPU teams manage their own workloads properly.
- Community tip: games.gg says to check the Weekly Hub before you sim a week, because skipping it leaves development points unused.

How trades work in Madden 27 Franchise
EA says it has “expanded under the hood” the way CPU teams trade. Teams get more active at key points in the season and use the standings to decide whether to buy or rebuild. They also weigh immediate impact and the money they would take on. In the offseason, CPU teams trade up or down in the draft depending on which prospects are still on the board.
- Trade demands affect prices. When a star demands a trade, it makes the news and other teams come calling, in your league or anywhere else. Watch the News Center rumors for players who are unhappy or open to a restructure.
- No-trade clauses are real now. Be careful before giving one to a veteran you might want to move later.
- Trades affect your cap. Since October 21, cap math on contracts with incentives is correct when you extend, release or trade a player. Restructures on contracts with void years also work properly now, so they can no longer be used to dodge payments.
- Community tips (games.gg rebuild guide): trade veterans before their value drops, collect second- and third-round picks rather than packaging everything into one first, and make offensive line depth a priority because it is expensive to fix in free agency.

FAQ
What are Franchise Points in Madden 27?
Franchise Points are a new reward on the free track of the Team Pass, used to progress your coach. MVP Bundle pre-orders got 300, and MVP+ members got 200 more (500 total). Eligible pre-orders also start every new league with 200 Staff Points, which you also earn by playing. Commissioners can turn these bonuses off in League Settings.
Does Madden 27 Franchise mode have paid progression?
No. EA’s launch FAQ says Franchise mode doesn’t include paid progression, and that progression works the same as in Madden NFL 26.
Do I need a new Franchise league after the October 21 update?
Only for the salary-cap changes. EA says starting a new league is needed to get all of them. The progression, contract, custom roster and depth chart fixes work in existing leagues.
