Voodoo has no official Castle Busters tier list. What it does name (Webley, Laser Man), how to rank units yourself, early-game and F2P tips, and 1.21.0 changes.

There is no official Castle Busters tier list, and Voodoo hasn’t published unit stats or a full roster. The game’s App Store, Google Play and Voodoo pages describe unit roles instead, and they name only two units: Webley, the Season 5 unlock, and Laser Man, which is sold as a $9.99 unit pack. This Castle Busters strategy guide covers what is official, how we judge units (our criteria, labelled as ours), early-game and F2P tips, and what Voodoo has and hasn’t said about the arenas. Store data checked November 6, 2026, 08:50 UTC.

  • Tier list: none from Voodoo. Community tier lists use unit names and stats we can’t match to anything the developer has published, so we don’t repeat them.
  • Officially named units: Webley (Season 5 “Hang Tight”, October 15 to November 12) and Laser Man (Laser Man Unit Pack, $9.99 on the App Store).
  • Win conditions: take out the whole enemy crew, or turn their castle into rubble.
  • F2P priority (our view): castle slots and unit upgrades from free rewards first; skip gem packs until you know which units you’ll keep.
  • Current version: 1.21.0 on iOS (October 28, 2026). Many player reviews say it cut rewards and unit damage, so rankings from before then are out of date.

Castle Busters best units: is there an official tier list?

No. Here is everything Voodoo’s own store text says about units, from the App Store listing and the Google Play listing:

  • Three jobs: “Some heroes bring the damage. Others rally the crew to hit even harder. And some bring teammates back from the dead.”
  • Archetypes (Play text): “brave knights, sharp-eyed archers and bombers.”
  • Progression: you level up units and unlock new heroes, and each new one “brings a different ability.”

Only two units appear by name in official listings:

Unit Where Voodoo names it What the official text says
Webley App Store and Play event “Season 5: Hang Tight” (Oct 15, 22:00 UTC to Nov 12, 22:59 UTC) “Unlock Webley this season. His webs toughen your walls so they stay put, even when knocked loose!”
Laser Man App Store in-app purchase list “Laser Man Unit Pack”, $9.99. No ability text is published.

Players back up what the official text suggests. Webley, the paid units and the laser units come up again and again in recent App Store reviews. One reviewer says Webley “has basically ruined the game” because you need him to compete. Another says the laser units can wreck a castle by hitting the same spot over and over. These are player opinions, not stats, but they show what you’ll meet in matches.

How to pick the best units yourself (our criteria)

Since there’s no official data to rank, this is the checklist we’d use to sort your own roster. The criteria are ours, based on the win conditions and unit roles Voodoo describes.

Criterion Why it matters What to check in your game
Wall breaking You can win by turning the castle into rubble, and every broken wall opens a new angle. How much castle damage one shot does, and whether it hits an area or a single point
Crew damage The other way to win is to wipe out every enemy unit once they’re exposed. Damage to units, and whether it reaches units behind cover
Rally or buff Voodoo says some heroes “rally the crew to hit even harder.” How big the buff is, and whether it lasts more than one turn
Revive Some heroes bring teammates back, which undoes your rival’s best shot. How often it works, and how much health the unit comes back with
Wall defense Webley’s webs keep walls in place. Defense wins slow matches. Which sections it protects, and what removes the effect
Upgrade cost Players say upgrades got much more expensive in 1.21.0. Cards and coins needed for the next level, compared with your daily income

A simple lineup template (ours): one wall breaker, one crew-damage unit, one rally or revive unit, and one defensive pick if you have one. Voodoo’s store screenshots show four unit portraits in a loadout, so plan for four roles. Swap the defensive slot for a second wall breaker when your opponent’s castle is clearly bigger than yours.

Castle Busters strategy: early game tips

  1. Know both ways to win. If their crew is exposed, finishing the crew is often faster than knocking down every wall. If their units are buried deep, go for the castle.
  2. Shoot to open angles. Voodoo’s text puts it simply: “They can’t hide behind a wall you’ve already demolished.” Break the wall in front of an enemy unit first, then hit the unit next turn. One long-time player writes that matches take place on mostly flat ground, side by side, and that digging through the bottom of the enemy castle became their main plan.
  3. Fill cheap castle slots first. In Voodoo’s “Build your castle” screenshot, upper slots cost 100 wood and lower side slots cost 1,000 wood. The menu has Building, Upgrading and Foundations tabs, and Foundations is locked at that stage.
  4. Use your gadgets. Voodoo says to “choose gadgets that suit your strategy.” The match screenshots show two gadget icons in the corner, marked 1/1 or 0/1.
  5. Watch the round counter. Screenshots show counters such as “Round 3/24” and “Round 2/28”, so matches have a round limit. If you’re ahead on castle health late in a match, protect that lead.
  6. Level the Forge through unit upgrades. Voodoo says you earn Forge rewards as you “upgrade your squad and stronghold.” Since 1.21.0, a player reports that Forge level now controls castle upgrades and only rises when you upgrade units, a link the game doesn’t spell out.
  7. Collect chests every day. One player review says there are 20 daily chests and the first 5 are free. Another player says ads stop working every Sunday evening at 8 PM, which means no new chests until they work again. Both are player reports, so check them in your own game.

Castle Busters arena by arena: what Voodoo has published

Voodoo’s official text covers the structure: earn trophies, progress through the arenas on Trophy Road, then unlock Ranked mode and climb the leaderboards. The current App Store event also lists Colosseum: Season 1, a competitive mode with its own seasonal leaderboard (October 15 to November 12). Voodoo hasn’t published arena names, how many arenas there are, or the trophy count for each one, so we can’t match “arena 7” to a trophy number from official information.

What the official screenshots do show is matches at different trophy counts, each with its own setting:

Trophies in the screenshot Setting Opponent’s trophies Our tip for this stage
250 Snowy mountains 186 Learn aim and angles; spend wood on cheap slots
1,300 Jungle with waterfalls 1,224 Settle on four roles; upgrade only the units you’ll keep
4,000 Crystal cave 3,932 Upgrade walls; expect opponents with defensive units
7,600 Lava fields 7,520 Ranked and Colosseum stage; plan for paid units

In every shot the opponent is within about 100 trophies of the player, so matchmaking appears to be trophy-based. Not everyone agrees it feels that way. Several reviewers report opponents far above their level, and one says that after unlocking Colosseum “you’ll almost never win unless you dump lots of money into the game.”

Castle Busters F2P tips: what costs money

The game is free with in-app purchases and ads (App Store “Contains: Advertising”). Google Play rates it Teen for violence, blood and “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)”. These are the purchases on the US App Store, checked November 6:

In-app purchase Price
Loss Offer $0.99
Special Offer $2.99
Event Pack $4.99
Resources Pack $4.99
Small Gem Pack $4.99
Medium Gem Pack $9.99
Laser Man Unit Pack $9.99
No RV – Weekly $9.99
Battle Pass $14.99
Forge Pass – Biweekly $14.99

Free-to-play tips (our view):

  • Spend free gems on progress, not cosmetics. Gems are the premium currency in the screenshots, next to gold coins and wood. Use them on upgrades for units you’ll keep.
  • Don’t level every unit. After 1.21.0, players say upgrades got more expensive while match rewards went down. Pick four units and focus on them.
  • Two passes add up. The Battle Pass and the Forge Pass (billed every two weeks) are $14.99 each, and one player calls paying $14 every two weeks for a pass “ridiculous”. If you pay at all, buy one pass and check what it gives first.
  • Avoid mod APKs and “unlimited gems” sites. We don’t link modified builds. Get the game from the App Store, Google Play or Google Play Games on PC.

What changed in update 1.21.0 (players report)

Voodoo’s iOS notes for 1.21.0 (October 28) say only “Improvements and bug fixes.” The reviews that followed describe a big economy and balance change. None of this comes from Voodoo, so treat it as player reports:

  • Unit levels were rescaled. One player says the level scale went from 100 to 50; another says a level 30 unit dropped to level 12.
  • Unit damage went down. One reviewer says their wolf’s activated damage fell from about 105% to 94%.
  • Match rewards and wood income were cut. One player says the upgrade from level 13 to 14 now costs 50,000, up from 2,000, while a match pays about 700.
  • Forge level now gates castle upgrades and only rises through unit upgrades.

What that means for you: any Castle Busters tier list from before October 28 ranked units at their old power. Check the current numbers on each unit card in your game before you spend upgrades.

FAQ

Is there a Castle Busters tier list?

Not from Voodoo. The developer hasn’t published unit stats or a roster, and update 1.21.0 changed unit power, so use the criteria above to rank your own units.

How do you get Webley in Castle Busters?

Voodoo’s Season 5 event says you can “unlock Webley this season”, which runs from October 15, 22:00 UTC to November 12, 22:59 UTC (5:59 PM ET). The listing doesn’t say which pass tier or price he comes with. Check the season screen in your game.

Is Castle Busters pay to win?

Many App Store reviews since 1.21.0 say paid units such as Webley and Laser Man give a big edge in Ranked and Colosseum. Other players say early progress is fine for free. Voodoo calls the game free to play with optional purchases.

Is Castle Busters on PC?

Yes. The Google Play listing says it runs on Windows through Google Play Games, and the App Store version runs on Macs with an M1 chip or later.

Are you playing real people or bots?

Voodoo calls Castle Busters “turn-based online PvP”. Some reviewers believe higher-level opponents are bots, while others say they’re sure they face real players. Voodoo hasn’t said anything about bots.
