What are dual-type cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket?
A dual-type card shows two type icons in its top corner instead of one. Mega Mewtwo X ex shows Psychic and Fighting, and Mega Greninja ex shows Water and Darkness. The Producer Letter only says dual-type Pokémon are “expanding the battling experience”. As of October 22, neither Pokemon.com nor the press release explains how the second type interacts with Weakness or with cards that care about type.
Here’s what the card faces do show:
- Each card still has one Weakness: Darkness for Mega Mewtwo X ex, Lightning for Mega Greninja ex.
- Their attacks only ask for one type of Energy. Dual Impact costs two Psychic plus one Colorless, and Splash of Darkness costs two Water. So you can run Mega Mewtwo X ex on Psychic Energy alone, and Mega Greninja ex on Water alone.
- What the second type changes in a match (hitting Weakness, counting for type-based effects) is the open question. Treat any claim about that as unconfirmed until the in-game rules text is out on launch day.
The trailer comes from The Pokémon Company’s official YouTube channel:
Every Dual Fusion card revealed so far
These are the nine cards in the official press kit, with HP, attacks and costs read from the card images (P = Psychic, W = Water, L = Lightning, R = Fire, C = Colorless). A Mega Evolution ex gives your opponent 3 points when it’s Knocked Out, and a regular ex gives 2. In Pocket, 3 points wins the match, so losing a Mega ex loses the game.
| Card | Type / Stage / HP | Attack (cost): damage and effect | Weakness / Retreat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Mewtwo X ex | Psychic + Fighting, Basic, 180 | Dual Impact (P P C): 100, plus 40 more if a Stadium is in play | Darkness +20 / 2 |
| Mega Greninja ex | Water + Darkness, Stage 2 (from Frogadier), 200 | Splash of Darkness (W W): 100, and the Defending Pokémon can’t retreat during your opponent’s next turn | Lightning +20 / 0 |
| Mega Dragonite ex | Dragon, Stage 2 (from Dragonair), 240 | Draconic Meteor (W L C C C): 250 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon chosen at random | none / 4 |
| Pikachu ex | Lightning, Basic, 120 | Pika Punch (L): 30. Thundertail (L L C): 130, discard 2 Lightning Energy | Fighting +20 / 1 |
| Mew ex | Psychic, Basic, 130 | Secret Guidance (P): flip 3 coins and attach that many Psychic Energy from your Energy Zone to Benched Psychic Pokémon. Psyburn (P C): 60 | Darkness +20 / 1 |
| Fuecoco ex | Fire, Basic, 130 | Bite (R): 30. Feisty Flames (R C): 50, plus 70 more if this Pokémon has damage on it | Water +20 / 2 |
| Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise | New cards and illustrations | Shown in the trailer and press kit as new art. Full text will come with the in-game card list. | |

Cards worth planning around
- Mega Mewtwo X ex is a Basic. It’s a Mega you can play straight onto the field with no evolution line. Dual Impact hits 140 with a Stadium in play, which takes down any 140 HP or lower ex with no Weakness math needed. The catch is its Darkness Weakness and the 3 points it gives up.
- Mew ex pairs naturally with it. Secret Guidance can fill a Benched Psychic Pokémon like Mega Mewtwo X ex with up to 3 Energy in one turn, though it’s coin-flip dependent (an average of 1.5).
- Mega Greninja ex is the trapper. 100 damage for just two Water, and the target can’t retreat on your opponent’s next turn. With no retreat cost, Greninja itself can switch out for free.
- Fuecoco ex rewards taking a hit. Feisty Flames jumps from 50 to 120 for two Energy once it has any damage on it.
- Mega Dragonite ex is big but random. 250 damage knocks out almost anything, but the target is random and the attack costs five Energy of mixed types.
Special Pack: First Partners (October 31 to December 26)
Special packs are new to Pocket. According to the press release, they’re separate from regular booster packs and use special pack stamina that recovers once a week, and every pack has a guaranteed ★ card. The first one, Special Pack: First Partners, runs October 31 to December 26. It features the first partner Pokémon from all nine regions of the Pokémon games. Serebii lists 27 cards in the set, with Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Piplup and Fuecoco among the previews.
Stamina refills weekly and the window is about eight weeks, so opening your special pack every week is the fastest way to finish the set without spending.

Free decks: rental decks and the Mega Rayquaza ex elite deck
- Six Dual Fusion rental decks are available from launch until December 15, 2026, at 5:59 p.m. PST (01:59 UTC on December 16). Pokemon.com highlights the dual-type decks built around Mega Mewtwo X ex and Mega Greninja ex. The Producer Letter adds that rental decks are now usable as soon as a booster releases, with unlimited uses, and also work in versus battles. They’re replaced when the next booster pack comes out.
- A new elite deck arrives in your Gifts. It’s a Dragon-type list built around Mega Rayquaza ex and Dragonair from Ruler of the Skies, plus Gouging Fire from Paradox Drive.
- Mega Greninja covers and backdrops become available from Saturday, October 31.
Before you spend Pack Points or shinedust on Mega Mewtwo X ex or Mega Greninja ex, play their rental decks for a few days to see which one suits you.

What else changes with the new series
The October 2026 Producer Letter lists several changes arriving with the end-of-October update:
- Slower sets: booster packs move from roughly four-week to roughly six-week cycles, because players said big sets made collecting hard. The rental decks ending on December 15 fits that pace, but the next set’s date isn’t announced.
- Community Decks: browse popular or friends’ decks in-game and copy them using your own cards.
- Immersive cards from collections: you can now earn immersive cards by completing collections, not only by opening packs.
- Limited Battle events: after each release, there are events with restricted card pools. Rewards such as accessories and promo packs scale with your wins.
- Trading and sharing: you can see which cards of any rarity your trade partner hasn’t registered, and check a share partner’s wishlist.
The letter notes that contents and timing can still change.
What to do before and on launch day
- Finish the Pikachu missions. The 10-day login for the immersive Pikachu ex started October 20, so you can wrap it up before Dual Fusion arrives.
- Keep pack hourglasses in reserve so you can open more than one new pack at launch.
- Claim the elite deck from Gifts and try the six rental decks before you craft anything.
- Redeem the anniversary ticket from October 29.
- Open your First Partners special pack every week from October 31.
- Mark November 13 to 20 (Bonus Week) and November 5 to 15 (Emblem Event) for free packs and hourglasses.
