Planet Zoo 2 is on update 1.0.9, a same-day crash hotfix Frontier Developments released on November 5, 2026. The next full update is planned for the week commencing November 9. Below is every numbered patch from 1.0.4 to 1.0.9 with its date, the money and progression changes in each, and what Frontier says is coming next.
All patch facts come from Frontier’s own announcements on the Planet Zoo 2 Steam news page, read on November 8, 2026 UTC. The earliest numbered notes posted there are for 1.0.4 (October 14), so this page starts at 1.0.4. It is a summary in our words, not the full notes, which run to hundreds of lines per patch.

Money, loans and progression changes by patch
Planet Zoo 2 is a zoo management game, so cash flow and unlock pacing matter most. These are the changes that touch them directly.
| Patch | Change |
|---|---|
| 1.0.4 | “Reduced the interest rates” on loans. Frontier did not give the numbers in the notes. |
| 1.0.5 | Wildlife Reserves charging the wrong amount of Conservation Credits (CC) fixed. Inspection reports that gave only 4 stars when every aspect was rated 5 stars fixed. |
| 1.0.6 | Habitat repair that “caused extreme financial costs” fixed. Any player zoo with negative cash was reset to $0. |
| 1.0.6 | Accreditation 3 now needs a 2-star Wildlife Reserve (was 3). Accreditation 4 needs 3-star reserves (was 4). Accreditation 5 needs one fewer Zoo and Wildlife Reserve (was 2 Zoos and 3 Wildlife Reserves). |
| 1.0.6 | Balancing pass on accreditation tiers for species that did not match their unlock level, aimed at easy-to-keep exhibits and fish, with more variety in the first tier. |
| 1.0.8 | Anyone who saw a large negative CC balance was reset to 10,000 CC. Animals lost during a crashed or disconnected release to a Franchise Wildlife Reserve were replaced with new ones. |
| 1.0.8 | You can retake loans after they have been paid off. |

Update 1.0.4 (October 14): the first post-release patch
Frontier posted that Planet Zoo 2 had already passed the all-time concurrent player record of the original Planet Zoo within its first 24 hours. Update 1.0.4 arrived at 2 PM BST that day. Its headline fixes were FSR and DLSS not working when selected in the Graphics menu, audio distortion when cycling heatmap tabs, and custom keybindings resetting whenever you opened the Hub, Animal Trading or Animal Storage.
It also addressed Franchise: juvenile shoals could not be listed for trading, and Frontier gave players “greater access to initial animal trading volumes”. On the animal side the notes list fewer animals escaping habitats, fewer automatic boxings, better climbing animations and changes to breeding frequency and shoal welfare requirements. Career got fixes for save slots sharing a medal total, which had unlocked later levels early.
Update 1.0.5 (October 16): Franchise stability and trading balance
The 1.0.5 post apologised for stability problems in Franchise Mode and set out high-priority areas: crashes, save stability, avoiding loss of CC, and animal behaviour. Changes included more stable loading of franchise zoos, an Edge Scrolling option in the keyboard and mouse settings, settings that were not saving after a relaunch, and a better balance of male and female animals offered in the Animal Trading Market and born in Franchise.
Frontier also fixed a crash when choosing an Ecosystem Brush in the Tanzania Reserve Wildlife Reserve, African Penguins walking on water, and the inability to connect to the server on Steam Deck with Proton 11 and newer.
Update 1.0.6 and hotfix 1.0.7 (October 23)
Update 1.0.6 is the first large balance patch. Besides the cash reset and the accreditation changes in the table above, it changed animals and aquariums:
- Exhibit animal fertility rates were reduced, and boxing in aquariums was reduced.
- Aquarium temperature is no longer affected by coolers or heaters. Frontier noted that the tooltips still say they do and that this would be changed in a future update.
- Staff fixes: keepers now clean suspended feeders, and staff stuck in a staff room or wandering after a deleted transport destination were fixed. They now drop the box on the path instead.
- Animals were fixed so they can no longer jump through glass tunnels, and Red Deer no longer “pronk”.
Later that day Frontier found that some players could not resume a franchise save after 1.0.6, and feared saves were lost. The post said saves were not lost and told players not to delete the saves folder. Hotfix 1.0.7 fixed it. Until you have it, Frontier’s workaround is to restart the game and enter your mode with its main-menu button instead of pressing Resume. If you still cannot reach Franchise servers, check that you are not on a VPN, which Frontier also flags as a cause of connection problems.

Update 1.0.8 (October 29): saves, loans and breeding
Update 1.0.8 added “extra measures to prevent loss of progress or animals in career and sandbox mode”, on top of the Franchise fixes in the money table. It also changed the Save menu so saves made in the current location are separated and the loaded save is highlighted, to stop players overwriting the wrong save, and fixed two crashes that blocked some zoos from loading.
Other changes that affect how a zoo plays:
- Exhibit animals no longer all breed at the start of their breeding season. Breeding is now staggered across the season.
- A new sandbox setting disables injuries for arriving animals.
- Disease was spreading faster than expected in aquariums, which was fixed.
- Nature brushes got filter options and follow terrain height better. Aquariums that are not connected to power are now clearly marked.
- Franchise save slots no longer reorder by last played.
Update 1.0.9 (November 5): the Loony Bloons crash hotfix
Frontier called 1.0.9 an “immediate patch”. A crash tied to Loony Bloons shops, the Loony Bloons counter and Souvenir shops could make a zoo crash on load. The post says the saves themselves are intact and that zoos hit by the bug should open again after updating. It also says the patch does not change the update plan on the Under Investigation page. If your zoo was crashing on load, install 1.0.9 before you touch the save.
What is coming in the next Planet Zoo 2 update
Frontier’s Under Investigation post, last updated November 4, lists fixes being tested for the next update, with the caveat that these are not final patch notes:
- Accreditation: removing accreditation requirements for five Deluxe Edition species: Golden Eagle, Golden Lion Tamarin, Great Hammerhead Shark, Axolotl, and Blue and Gold Fusilier.
- Guests and staff: a change to guest appeal that balances Food/Drink shops against Restaurants, guests stuck on benches at 0% energy, and staff replacing food in habitats more often.
- Animals: sold animals reappearing in the animal storage UI, Sand Tiger Sharks getting stuck, and terrain requirements stuck at a wrong value.
- Interface: the ESC key deselecting items before it closes a menu, and a QR code on the Planet Hub that links to the patch notes.
Under investigation for later updates: animals boxed more often than usual, wrong animal animations, automated exhibit population management, more control of seasons in Sandbox, better guest use of bins and benches, seasonal clothing for guests and staff, and more sandbox maps, starting with North American Grasslands and European Grasslands.
Before you install the next Planet Zoo 2 patch
Our tip, based on the bugs above: several of them hit saves and animals in transit, so finish saving before a patch lands mid-run in Franchise and keep a second save slot. Frontier’s post titles carry the version (for example “Planet Zoo 2 | Update 1.0.9”), so the Steam news page is the quickest way to see whether you are current.
