MW4 has 64 notes in three missions: 4 in Following Orders, 58 in Stranded, 2 in Escape. Full checklist with Stranded coordinates and every code you need.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has 64 collectible notes, and they sit in only three campaign missions: 4 in Following Orders (Mission 3), 58 in Stranded (Mission 10) and 2 in Escape (Mission 13). The Noteworthy trophy and achievement asks you to “read 50 different notes”, so Stranded is where it is won or lost. Below is a full checklist of all 64, cross-checked between IGN’s and AllThingsHow’s guides (both updated after the October 23 launch), with Stranded map coordinates and the codes that open the locked ones.

Quick answer

  • Total: 64 notes. Following Orders 4, Stranded 58, Escape 2. There are no notes in the other 13 missions.
  • Noteworthy (Gold, 50 Gamerscore): read 50 different notes. That leaves room to miss 14.
  • Even with all 6 notes from Following Orders and Escape, you still need 44 from Stranded. To be safe, aim for 50 inside Stranded alone (see “Do notes from all missions count?” below).
  • No Stone Unturned: all 4 Following Orders notes plus all 4 contraband items. One is lost for good if you leave the woman in the kitchen hideout.
  • Codes you need: 214 (Following Orders toolbox), 0024, 0008 and 0330 (Stranded), 8410 (Escape dog tags).
  • Only Stranded shows a running count: open the backpack (D-pad down on controller, per IGN) to see “X/58”. There’s no list of which notes you’ve missed.

MW4 notes by mission and the trophies they unlock

Notes don’t give weapons, camos or XP. They only count toward campaign trophies and achievements, and MW4 has just 18 of them in total (no Platinum on PS5, because the campaign list is an add-on under Call of Duty HQ). These are the ones tied to collectibles:

Mission Notes Other collectibles Trophy / achievement Requirement
3. Following Orders 4 4 contraband items No Stone Unturned Confiscate all contraband and read all notes in the mission
10. Stranded 58 26 yellow supply crates Time to Crate (Gold) Open every yellow supply crate in Stranded
13. Escape 2 1 set of dog tags Never Forgotten (Silver) Recover the dog tags in Escape
All three 64 – Noteworthy (Gold) Read 50 different notes

Requirement wording follows Insider Gaming’s and AllThingsHow’s trophy lists, which agree on all 18 entries. If you’re also chasing the difficulty unlocks, our MW4 YOLO mode guide covers Hold the Line, Was It Worth It? and the one-life difficulty.

Do notes from all missions count toward Noteworthy?

The requirement just says “50 different notes”, with no mission named. IGN’s notes guide says the 50 include the Following Orders and Escape notes, and AllThingsHow’s trophy guide does the same math (64 total, 50 needed). AllThingsHow’s separate notes guide frames it as “50 of the 58 notes in Stranded”. The two readings only matter if you finish with fewer than 50 in Stranded. The cheap insurance is to collect 50 in Stranded, where the backpack counter lets you check your number. The 6 notes elsewhere then become a buffer, not a requirement.

Following Orders notes and contraband (Mission 3)

Everything is inside the houses you search with Lieutenant Ko. You need all eight items for No Stone Unturned, so there’s no margin here. Locations as IGN and AllThingsHow both give them:

# Item Type Where
1 MP3 Player Contraband First house: bathroom off the living room, wall medicine cabinet
2 Western Novel Contraband Sliding doors on the left by the TV, top cabinets
3 Baekseolgi-Tteok Recipe Note 1/4 Kitchen, first cabinet on the left (the toolbox code clue)
4 Rations Contraband Kitchen, cabinet above the recipe
5 Medicine Contraband Toolbox behind the sliding doors nearest the entrance, code 214
6 Note From Your Friend Note 2/4 Same toolbox
7 A Note From Your Neighbor Note 3/4 Third house: through the double sliding doors, right-hand single door, cabinet
8 Note From Mom Note 4/4 Crawlspace under the kitchen trapdoor (needs the Key)

The recipe tells you to leave out the salt, which removes the 5 and leaves 214 for the toolbox. Our Modern Warfare 4 safe codes guide explains how every other campaign clue works.

How to get Note From Mom

  1. In the third house, go through the next sliding doors and into the room on your immediate right. Open the cabinet and take the Key hanging on its side.
  2. Go to the kitchen and open the trapdoor in front of the steaming kettle. A woman is hiding underneath.
  3. Use the dialogue to get her out. AllThingsHow lists the choices as “Please come outside with me”, then “No, we’re going outside” when she refuses.
  4. Once she leaves, drop into the crawlspace and turn around. The note is on the floor (crouch to read it).

Both guides warn that letting her stay hidden locks you out of the note, and therefore out of No Stone Unturned until you replay the mission.

Stranded notes locations (Mission 10): all 58

Stranded is an open sandbox, and it holds 58 of the 64 notes. At Base Camp, choose to find your own path so the whole map stays open. You can fast travel between Base Camp, the three main objectives and any outpost you’ve cleared, per IGN. Some rules that trip people up:

  • The note number on screen depends on pickup order, so track by name, not by number.
  • Five Base Camp gear notes (the desk left of the entrance) only appear after you finish any one of the three main objectives, according to AllThingsHow.
  • Objective-only notes: the four Bunker notes and five Jamming Station notes can only be picked up during those objectives.
  • Two notes have no fixed spot. They drop from your 3rd and 5th yellow supply crate, wherever those are on your route.

Coordinates are the in-game map’s X, Y values, and IGN and AllThingsHow give the same ones for every pinned note (one or two digits differ on the Imninban Report and the train journal). The table runs roughly west to east by area. The names are the in-game note titles; the two guides spell a few of them slightly differently.

Base Camp, Radio Tower and crate notes (11)

Note X, Y Where to look
Base Camp Keypad Note 644, 158 On the green shipping container right of the radio tower (opens with 0024)
Radio Tower Note 644, 158 Second platform of the radio tower
Top of Radio Tower Note 644, 158 Very top of the tower, next to a yellow crate
Cliff Near Base Camp Note 646, 149 Front of the shipping container on the cliff
Grenade Launcher Info 646, 156 Desk left of the Base Camp entrance (after one objective)
Tactical Gloves Info 646, 156 Same desk
Tactical Boot Info 646, 156 Same desk

Silenced (Sniper) Repair Note 646, 156 Same desk
Supply Crates Weapon Inventory – Inside your 3rd yellow supply crate
Supply Crates Equipment Inventory – Inside your 5th yellow supply crate

For the tower, climb the ladder to the first landing, then follow the red and white ledges and the hand-grab prompts up. From the top, AllThingsHow suggests parachuting southeast toward the smuggler buildings. IGN adds that the crate notes can hide under the crate’s other loot, so check the crate after looting it.

SAM Site and the northwest (7)

Note X, Y Where to look
Change of Plans 598, 124 Blue garage at the SAM Site
Booby-Trapped Store Note 606, 114 Store at the top of the hill (set off the traps with an explosive first)
Family Affair 606, 136 Abandoned building, desk in the hallway
Northwest Abandoned House Note 606, 137 Desk in the same abandoned building
SAM Site Note About Bunkers 608, 125 Next to the statue
Farmer’s Note 609, 114 Floor of the house beside the rice paddy
SAM Site Note About Helipad 610, 125 Above the yellow crate

River islands, outposts, Farm Field and Big Sign (12)

Note X, Y Where to look
Elevator Controls Note 615, 141 Left of the elevator, after clearing the outpost
Island Hidden Bunker Note 615, 169 Wall next to the locked bunker keypad
NW Bunker Note 615, 169 Desk inside that bunker (code 0008)
Helipad Outpost Note 617, 142 Inside the building once the outpost is clear
Small Island Keypad Note 618, 132 On the shipping container
River Shed Note 626, 146 Guard house on the island
Farm Field Hidden Bunker Keypad Note 631, 127 On top of the keypad

Big Sign Keypad Note 634, 136 Front of the shipping container
Big Sign Patrol Note 634, 136 Side of the same container
Big Sign Smuggling Note 636, 137 Climb the right side of the gate entrance
Shed Near Hub Note 637, 135 Inside the destroyed shed

The hidden island bunker is on the riverbank across from Infantry Checkpoint 1. Its wall note points to the checkpoint numbers by the river, which work out to 0008, per AllThingsHow. A yellow crate is inside with the NW Bunker Note.

Southern Monument, Water Treatment and the sewers (5)

Note X, Y Where to look
Top of Southern Monument Note 638, 179 Summit of the monument (climb the red ledges)
Sewers Note 639, 164 Sewer floor opposite the ladder, by a gated drain
Sewer Smuggler Remains Note 639, 165 End of the sewer maze, with supplies and a yellow crate
Water Treatment Note 640, 166 Question-mark building: in through the doors, turn left, corner by the water tank
Under Bridge Note 643, 165 Underneath the bridge

The sewer maze is the one that eats time. The signs show a pattern of arrows, and you follow the pattern, not the literal direction. AllThingsHow’s turn-by-turn version: first section right, left, then straight; at the remains turn left and climb the ladder; in the second section go forward, right, left, left; turn right at the pipe sticking out of the wall, left at the dead end, then left again at the next pipe to reach the far end. From the monument summit, both guides suggest parachuting down to the bridge for the Under Bridge Note.

Central villages and the northeast outpost (8)

Note X, Y Where to look
Bombed House Note 651, 135 Front door is locked: climb the house and drop through the roof hole
Southwest Village Note 651, 179 Grey building in the village
Cargo Container Note 652, 163 Brown shed with the orange door, bench in the back corner
South East Village Keypad Note 652, 187 Front of the shipping container by the south bridge
Smuggler House Note 653, 162 Blue and grey house, workbench by the back door
Cultural Traitor 653, 131 Inside the house
Imninban (Social Police) Report 653-654, 183 White house with blue trim along the road from the Southwest Village
North East Outpost Note 657, 118 Clear the outpost

Bunker objective and the train (6)

Note X, Y Where to look
Provisions 659, 206 Desk on your right as you enter the underground bunker
Mutiny 653, 208 Top of the broken stairs (push the yellow cart under them)
Discipline 656, 208 Desk right after Mutiny
Traitors 657, 204 Desk on the left in the final bunker room
Work Camp Escapee Journal 667, 187-188 Front red boxcar on the tracks
Train Boxcar Note 668, 187 Rear boxcar

The first four only exist during the Bunker objective, according to both guides, so grab them on the way through rather than planning to come back.

Jamming Station and the east (9)

Note X, Y Where to look
Ne Statue Note 660, 127 Around the statue
South of Jamming Station Keypad Note 666, 125 Front of the storage container
Exiled in Snow 666, 126 Next to the same container
Cliffside Dead Soldier Note 670, 120 By the body on the climb up
Jamming Station Locker Room Note 671, 119 Locker room (objective)
Jamming Station Entry Room Note 672, 119 First building (objective)
Jamming Station Main Room Note 673, 118 Control room (objective)
Jamming Station Helipad Note 673, 123 On the helipad (objective)
Jamming Station Quarters Note 679, 123 Soldiers’ quarters in the blue building (objective)

That’s 11 + 7 + 12 + 5 + 8 + 6 + 9 = 58. Nine of them (four in the Bunker, five at the Jamming Station) are objective-only. Miss all nine and Stranded tops out at 49, one short of 50 on its own.

Escape notes and dog tags (Mission 13)

Item Where
Confiscation Protocol Reminder (note) After the first guard, the first door on the left of the hallway; the note is to your right inside
Updated Code (note) Office with the large window: hide until the soldier takes a phone call and runs out, then read the note
Dog tags (Never Forgotten) Right after the barracks, an unlocked door on the right of the hallway; open the safe with 8410

The Updated Code note is what gives you 8410, but the code is fixed, so you can type it in even if you missed the note.

Fastest route to Noteworthy

  1. Following Orders (4): get all four in the first pass, since No Stone Unturned needs them anyway. Get the woman out of the hideout.
  2. Stranded, before any objective: Base Camp container and radio tower (3), then the southeast compound (Smuggler House, Cargo Container), Water Treatment and the sewers, the monument and the bridge. This loosely follows IGN’s order, which heads south toward the Bunker first.
  3. Bunker objective (4) and the train (2), then north to the Jamming Station objective (5 plus the cliffside soldier).
  4. Back to Base Camp once one objective is done for the five desk notes, then sweep the north and west: Big Sign, Farm Field bunker, river islands, SAM Site.
  5. Check the backpack counter. At 50 in Stranded, Noteworthy is safe no matter which reading of the requirement is right. Escape’s 2 notes are a bonus.

None of the four collectible requirements mentions a difficulty, so a note hunt doesn’t have to share a run with Realism or YOLO. Our MW4 campaign length and missions guide has the full 16-mission order.

FAQ

How many notes are in MW4?

64: 4 in Following Orders, 58 in Stranded and 2 in Escape. IGN and AllThingsHow list the same 64.

How many notes do you need for Noteworthy?

50 different notes. Getting 50 in Stranded covers it under either guide’s reading.

Is there an intel tracker in Modern Warfare 4?

Not a checklist. Stranded’s backpack shows a count out of 58, and other missions show an “X out of Y” prompt when you pick something up, according to IGN. Use the tables above to tick off names.

Can you replay a mission to finish the notes?

Yes. AllThingsHow says that if you leave the woman hidden in Following Orders, the fix for No Stone Unturned is replaying the mission. The same applies to anything you miss in Stranded’s one-time objectives.
