Tenebris Somnia has four endings. Spare or kill Relicta after the Aurifer for Endings 1 and 2; Endings 3 and 4 need a new game. A first run takes 6-8 hours.

There are four Tenebris Somnia endings, according to the game’s Steam achievement list. Endings 1 and 2 split at the end of a normal run, depending on whether you kill Relicta ghosts after you get the Aurifer knife. Endings 3 and 4 are hidden and need a new game. Reviewers finished a first run in about 6 to 8 hours.

This guide explains how to unlock each ending, not what happens in them. It uses the game’s own achievement data, New Blood’s patch notes and the step-by-step guides players have posted since the October 16 launch. Ending conditions for 3 and 4 come from community guides and are labeled that way. Steam figures were checked October 19, 2026, 09:30 UTC.

Quick answer

  • Ending 1 (Solve et Coagula): once you have the Aurifer, reach the Séptimo Arte theater without killing a single Relicta. The final boss is Lacuna.
  • Ending 2 (Magnum Opus): once you have the Aurifer, kill Relicta on the way to Séptimo Arte. The final boss is Hermes.
  • Ending 3 (Vivus Ex Mortibus, hidden): after Endings 1 and 2, start a new game, take the Bible from the table, use it at three puzzles to collect three crosses, then place them in the street outside Séptimo Arte.
  • Ending 4 (Renuntiatio, hidden): at the very start of a new game, turn around and use the apartment keys on the building’s front door to leave.
  • Save right after getting the Aurifer. One save covers both Ending 1 and Ending 2.
  • Length: about 6 to 8 hours for a first run, based on four reviews.

How many endings does Tenebris Somnia have?

Four. The Steam achievement list has one achievement per ending, “Get Ending #1” through “Get Ending #4”. Endings 3 and 4 are marked hidden. The global unlock rates show how few players have seen the hidden ones in the first three days:

Ending Achievement How to unlock (short) Final boss Steam players with it
1 SOLVE ET COAGULA Kill no Relicta after the Aurifer Lacuna 11.7%
2 MAGNUM OPUS Kill Relicta after the Aurifer Hermes 11.7%
3 (hidden) VIVUS EX MORTIBUS New game: Bible, three crosses See guide below 2.8%
4 (hidden) RENUNTIATIO New game: leave the building at once None 5.8%

The achievement names are Latin. “Solve et coagula” (dissolve and coagulate) and “magnum opus” (the great work) are alchemy terms, “vivus ex mortibus” means roughly “alive from the dead”, and “renuntiatio” means renunciation. Player guides call Ending 1 the good ending and Ending 2 the bad one.

How to get Ending 1 and Ending 2 (the Aurifer choice)

Both main endings come from the same decision near the end of the game. Every guide we checked agrees on where it happens. You get the Aurifer, a gold knife, from the locked hotel door after the elevator-shaft chase. The route from there to the Séptimo Arte theater is full of Relicta ghosts, and what you do with them decides the ending.

Ending 1: Solve et Coagula

  1. Get the Aurifer and save at the nearby save point. The Spanish site Blansi notes a save point is there for exactly this purpose.
  2. Run past every Relicta on the way to Séptimo Arte. Don’t attack any of them. If one grabs you, mash interact to break free.
  3. Enter Séptimo Arte. Your final fight is against Lacuna.

Ending 2: Magnum Opus

  1. Load the save from just after the Aurifer.
  2. Kill Relicta on the way to Séptimo Arte. Guides disagree on how many. The top-rated Steam puzzle guide and a Spanish endings guide say one kill is enough. The 100% achievement guide and Blansi say to kill several. If you want to be certain, kill more than one.
  3. Enter Séptimo Arte. Your final fight is against Hermes.

For the Heart of Lead achievement, kill every Relicta ghost on this run, including the ones on other floors and not just the ones on the street. The 100% achievement guide says kills sometimes failed to register. It recommends avoiding multikills and waiting until the gold particles fade after each kill.

How to get Ending 3 (Vivus Ex Mortibus)

Community data: neither New Blood nor the developers have published these steps. They come from three independent player guides (two on Steam, one on Blansi) that broadly agree but describe some stops differently. This is the longest ending, because it sends you back through much of the game.

Prerequisite: all three guides say you must see Endings 1 and 2 first. Then start a new game, and a Bible appears on the table in the opening area. One player commenting on the achievement guide said the Bible did not show up after both endings, so if it’s missing, check that both ending achievements actually unlocked.

  1. Take the Bible from the table at the start of the new game.
  2. TV puzzle, second-floor apartment: use the Bible on the TV showing static before you solve the normal puzzle. A cutscene shows a different solution. The achievement guide describes it as stepping on the male (Mars) symbol and hitting every symbol counterclockwise six times. Pick up the red cross.
  3. Combination lock at the film-reel location: before entering the normal code, use the Bible and enter the code the cutscene shows instead. One Spanish guide lists it as 6666. Blansi places this stop in the A.S Films production office, at the door marked “AS”.
  4. Camera room, Floor 0: get the yellow cable, go through the green door and use the Bible in the room. Plug in the cable and cycle through the camera channels (six times, per the achievement guide) until enemies appear. One guide says to kill them. You get the third cross.
  5. Place the crosses: take all three crosses to the street outside Séptimo Arte, put them on the marked spot on the wall and go through the door.

The puzzle guide notes that some solutions are randomized per playthrough, such as the elevator color order recorded in the Old Book. If a code from a guide doesn’t work, use the one your own cutscene or book shows.

How to get Ending 4 (Renuntiatio)

Community data: this is the quickest ending, and three Spanish-language guides plus the English achievement guide describe it the same way. When a new game starts, don’t head toward Iván’s apartment. Turn around, walk to the building’s main entrance, open your inventory and use the Apartment Key on the front door. Leaving the building triggers the ending.

The only disagreement is about requirements. The achievement guide says to do this after Endings 1 and 2, but Blansi and the Spanish Steam guides list no prerequisite. It only takes a minute, so try it on any new game. If nothing happens, finish Endings 1 and 2 first.

Best order to get all Tenebris Somnia endings

Step What to do Why
1 Full run, save after the Aurifer, take Ending 1 The no-kill route; one player reports Wrench Queen popped on Ending 1 but not on Ending 3
2 Reload that save, take Ending 2 (kill every Relicta) Gets Heart of Lead at the same time; only the final stretch is replayed
3 New game: Ending 4 A minute’s work. The guide author did 1, 2, 4, then 3 without problems
4 New game: Ending 3 Needs the Bible, which guides say only appears after Endings 1 and 2

Version 1.0.1 (October 18) is worth having before you start. According to New Blood’s patch notes, achievement unlocks now retry when two achievements pop at the same moment, which is common at the end of a run. The patch also fixes an inventory bug tied to dying in the second phase of the finale, and it makes the finale’s bloody slimes slower to spawn.

How long to beat Tenebris Somnia

There’s no official playtime. Launch reviews cluster at 6 to 8 hours for a first run, depending on how fast you solve the puzzles:

Source Reported length
Shacknews A “6-hour run”
GameTyrant 6 to 8 hours
Kakuchopurei An “8-hour” adventure
Saving Content Credits “in just over 8 hours”

All four endings take longer, but there’s no reliable total yet. Ending 2 only repeats the final stretch if you kept the Aurifer save. Ending 4 takes minutes. Ending 3 is the real extra cost, because a Spanish guide describes it as replaying a large part of the game. Completionists also have 14 missable achievements to plan around. The achievement guide lists them, including Stella Plena (all star lockers, gone after the Sanguis fight) and Wrench Queen (finish using only the wrench).

Saves are limited. The official achievement “Have You Chosen… Wisely?” is awarded for filling the silver bottle by removing three save points, and every guide treats that puzzle as mandatory. Plan where you save before that point, and keep a save right after you get the Aurifer.
