Practical Basketball PC controls: hold E to shoot, Space to dunk, 1-4 to pass. Plus the best PG, SG, SF, PF and center builds, and whose picks they are.

Practical Basketball on PC uses E to shoot (hold, then release at the top of the jump), Space to dunk, Shift to sprint and 1-4 to pass to a teammate. For a first build, most guides point to a fast 6’2″ point guard or a 6’8″ two-way small forward. The game officially launched on Roblox on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (6 p.m. ET). This guide has the full keyboard layout, what’s known about console and mobile, and the best build for each position, with who recommends it.

Heads-up: the official controls list lives in the developers’ Discord, not on the Roblox page. The keybinds below are the ones dated guides agree on, and we flag every place they disagree. Checked October 31, 2026 at 15:00 UTC.

Practical Basketball: quick answer

  • Shoot: hold E and release at the peak. Tap E for a pump fake.
  • Dunk: hold Space for a standing dunk, Shift + Space for a driving dunk.
  • Pass: 1, 2, 3 or 4 picks the teammate. Double-tap the number for a bounce pass.
  • Alley-oop: F for a self lob, T + teammate number to lob to a cutter.
  • Console and mobile: there’s no official button list outside the Discord. Console shows on-screen prompts and mobile uses touch buttons.
  • Best builds (community picks): 6’2″ playmaking PG, 6’8″ Built SF with Highlight Reel, 7’2″ post-up center with Diesel.
  • Codes: the launch added a codes system. Code trackers report RELEASE, but we could not confirm it from the developers yet (checked Oct 31, 15:00 UTC).

Is Practical Basketball out? Release date and time

Yes. After a run of stress tests (the last one, Stress Test #3, ran July 29 to August 12), the official Roblox event listing called “Official Release” started on October 30, 2026 at 22:00 UTC and runs until November 7 at 17:26 UTC. The game is made by the verified group Practical’s Games and still has “[ALPHA]” in its name. The developers warn: “Expect some bugs and server issues in the first few days.”

The release went big right away. Roblox’s own stats showed about 77,000 people playing at 14:59 UTC on October 31, and it was #21 on Roblox’s Top Playing Now chart at 15:01 UTC. The game has passed 100 million visits. According to the official release notes, this is what’s new since the last stress test:

  • Ranked Rec matchmaking and Blacktop queues from 1v1 to 5v5
  • A Season Pass
  • Reputation, build progression and rewards
  • Gym customization and mascots
  • New jumpshots, dribble moves, dunks, shot meters and green effects
  • A codes system
  • New skateboard, shoes, clothing, hairstyles and accessories
  • Major performance and mobile improvements

Practical Basketball controls on PC (keyboard and mouse)

These are the keybinds that The Spike (Jan 18, 2026), All Things How (Aug 1), TechWiser (Aug 4) and Beebom’s dunk and alley-oop guides (Aug 5) list. All of them were written during the stress tests. If something feels off after the launch update, check the in-game tutorial or the Discord.

Shooting, finishing and dunks

Action PC input Guides that list it
Jump shot Hold E, release at the peak The Spike, All Things How, TechWiser
Pump fake Tap E The Spike, All Things How
Layup E while driving to the rim The Spike, All Things How, TechWiser, Beebom
Standing dunk Hold Space close to the rim The Spike, All Things How, Beebom
Driving dunk Shift + Space while sprinting at the rim The Spike, All Things How, Beebom
Self alley-oop F while driving, then Space (dunk) or E (layup) The Spike, All Things How, Beebom (TechWiser says Shift + F)
Post move (hook) G All Things How only

Beebom’s best tip: near the basket, E gives you a layup, so use Space when you want a dunk. Every shot and dunk also has a timing meter. The goal is to release in the green zone.

Passing and alley-oops

Action PC input Guides that list it
Pass to a teammate 1, 2, 3 or 4 The Spike, All Things How, TechWiser
Bounce pass Double-tap the number The Spike, All Things How, TechWiser
Chest pass Shift + number The Spike, All Things How (TechWiser calls Shift + 1 a flashy pass)
Fake pass Hold Q + number All Things How, TechWiser
Alley-oop to a teammate Hold T + teammate number The Spike, All Things How, Beebom (TechWiser says T + E)

Movement and dribble moves

Action PC input Guides that list it
Move W, A, S, D TechWiser
Sprint Shift (tap it, don’t hold it all game) All Things How, TechWiser
Crossover Z or C, depending on which hand has the ball All Things How, TechWiser
X Behind the back (All Things How) or step back (TechWiser) Guides disagree
V Step-back or snatch-back (All Things How) or half spin (TechWiser) Guides disagree

Dribble moves depend on which hand holds the ball, so the same key can do a different move after you switch hands. Sprinting drains stamina, and TechWiser points out that holding Shift the whole time also pulls you out of position.

Practical Basketball controls on console (PS5, Xbox) and mobile

This is the part most “controls” pages get wrong. We couldn’t find an official controller or touch layout outside the developers’ Discord, and the guides don’t agree on the buttons. Here’s what is reported:

  • Console: All Things How says the game shows on-screen prompts with the controller button for moves like the double crossover and switching hands. That’s the quickest way to check a button in a match.
  • Mobile: touch buttons cover movement, shooting, dribbling and passing. The Spike notes that competitive players prefer keyboard, and the launch notes promise “major performance and mobile improvements”.
  • Official list: the game description says the controls are “conveniently listed in the community server”, meaning the official Practical Basketball Discord.

We’re leaving out PS5, Xbox and phone button tables on purpose: the ones floating around are guesses. We’ll add them once the developers post them publicly.

What to do first in Practical Basketball

  1. Play all six tutorials. TechWiser counts six in the “Learn Practical Basketball” section (Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Finishing, Defense, Post), and they pay Coins.
  2. Learn one shot spot. Get your E release consistent from one spot before you move on to moving shots.
  3. Redeem the launch code if it works for you (see the codes section below).
  4. Pick a position, then a build. Use the tables below and stop spending points at the badge thresholds your build needs.
  5. Try your build in Blacktop. The new 1v1 to 5v5 Blacktop queues are a quick way to test a build before you play Ranked Rec.

Best Practical Basketball builds by position

Builds are opinion, so here’s whose opinion you’re getting. The picks below come from All Things How’s build tier list (Aug 1, 2026, which credits its build screenshots to the creator Wittyyb) and its position guides, TechWiser’s point guard build (updated Aug 5) and the fan-run practicalbasketball.org builds page (updated Aug 10). All three are based on Stress Test #3. The launch added “build progression”, so check every number in the in-game builder before you lock it in.

The builder asks for position, height, wingspan, weight, body type, handedness, an optional Anomaly, and then attribute points across five groups: Finishing, Shooting, Playmaking, Defense and Physicals.

Position All Things How pick practicalbasketball.org pick Takeover
Point guard (PG) 6’2″ Narrow, 165 lbs playmaker (A tier: 6’2″ “Thieving Floor-General”) Same 6’2″, 165 lbs template Unleash or Smooth Operator (Team Riser if you pass first)
Shooting guard (SG) 6’6″ “Crafty Offensive General” (B tier) 6’7″, 180 lbs shooter Knockdown Shooter (practicalbasketball.org)
Small forward (SF) 6’8″ Built, 225 lbs (A tier: 6’9″ “Crafty Walking Bucket”) 6’8″, 225 lbs two-way wing Highlight Reel
Power forward (PF) 6’10” Built (C tier) 7’0″, 230 lbs dunker and defender Glue Guy (practicalbasketball.org)
Center (C) 7’2″ Built, 255 lbs “2-Way Post-Up Contributor” (S tier) 6’11”, 290 lbs rebounder with the Agility Anomaly Diesel (All Things How) or Board Hunter (practicalbasketball.org)

Best PG build in Practical Basketball

This is the one build all three sources agree on, down to the numbers. It’s a 6’2″ guard with a 6’2″ wingspan, 165 lbs and a Narrow body, built around 96 Ball Handle, 96 Pass Accuracy, 96 Speed, 97 Lateral Speed and 93 Mid-Range. Dunk ratings stay at 25, so you finish with floaters and layups. Both All Things How and TechWiser say to keep Steal at 84 or higher, because that’s where the Thief badge starts paying off. If you’d rather shoot threes, All Things How’s A-tier “Thieving Floor-General” moves the points into speed and the three-point shot (93 Three-Point, 98 Speed) and runs Smooth Operator.

Best SG build

All Things How ranks the 6’6″ “Crafty Offensive General” in B tier: 96 Three-Point, 90 Mid-Range and 85 Perimeter Defense, but low finishing and steals, so it lives on catch-and-shoot looks. practicalbasketball.org goes a bit taller (6’7″, 180 lbs) with Knockdown Shooter.

Best SF build

All Things How suggests a 6’8″ wing with a 6’8″ wingspan, 225 lbs and a Built body. Its key ratings are 86 Driving Layup, 85 Mid-Range, 82 Three-Point, 84 Perimeter Defense and 91 Stamina, with Highlight Reel as the takeover. Built over Narrow costs almost no speed but adds strength for contact finishes, according to the guide. practicalbasketball.org also lists 6’8″, 225 lbs and Highlight Reel and calls the SF the most flexible spot.

Best PF build

The sources disagree most here. All Things How puts its 6’10” Built PF in C tier (“one-dimensional” next to the center). practicalbasketball.org suggests a mobile 7’0″, 230 lbs big who dunks and defends, with the Glue Guy takeover. If your squad already has a center, the mobile PF is the better fit.

Best center build

All Things How’s top build in the whole game is the 7’2″ “2-Way Post-Up Contributor”: 255 lbs Built, 90 Post Control, 90 Interior Defense, 90 Block, 90 Rebound, 93 Strength and 81 on both mid-range and threes, with the Diesel takeover. practicalbasketball.org builds a pure paint anchor instead: 6’11”, 290 lbs with the Agility Anomaly, 97 Rebound and 87 Block, almost no outside shot, and Board Hunter. Pick the first if you want to score, the second if your guards do the scoring.

Practical Basketball codes (checked October 31, 2026, 15:00 UTC)

The launch notes confirm a new “Codes System”. Before the release, Beebom (Oct 1) and Bloxron (Oct 1) both said the game had no code box at all, so ignore any code list from before October 30.

We haven’t seen the developers post the code anywhere we can read, so treat it as tracker-reported. Codes are case-sensitive. Clashiverse says to open the Codes section from the main menu, paste the code and press Redeem. If you want other working Roblox codes this weekend, see our Blox Fruits codes list and RIVALS codes and free skin case.

Scripts and “auto green”: don’t

Bing’s search suggestions for Practical Basketball include “script” and “auto green”. The game description is blunt: “Cheaters don’t stand a chance – we detect and ban them.” The real fix for missed shots is the shooting tutorial and one steady release point.

FAQ

What are the Practical Basketball controls on PS5 and Xbox?

There’s no public official controller layout yet. The game shows controller prompts on screen during play, and the full list is in the developers’ Discord, according to the game description. Be careful with any PS5 or Xbox table that doesn’t say where it came from.

When did Practical Basketball officially release?

October 30, 2026 at 22:00 UTC (6 p.m. ET, 3 p.m. PT), according to the official Roblox event listing. The release event runs until November 7 at 17:26 UTC.

What is the best build in Practical Basketball?

All Things How ranks the 7’2″ post-up center with Diesel as the strongest overall (S tier). The 6’2″ playmaking PG is the one build every source agrees on number for number. Both come from Stress Test #3, so double-check them in the in-game builder now that build progression is live.

Does Practical Basketball have codes?

Yes, a codes system arrived with the October 30 release. Trackers report RELEASE as of October 31, but the developers have not posted it anywhere we can read, so treat it as unconfirmed. Older pages that say “no codes” were written before the launch.
