Game Dev Story Guide - Best Combos, How To Get Hardware Engineer and Develop Console
Written by Ankit Gaba

In this Game Dev Story Guide, we will cover nearly everything needed to get Game of The Year and never fail in the Game. Let’s start this with a few tips related to how to get the best game of the year award in Game Dev Story.

General Tips for Game Dev Story

If you’ve ever dreamt of running your own game development studio, then Game Dev Story by Kairosoft is the perfect simulation game to bring that dream to life! Creating hit games, hiring a talented development team, and winning prestigious awards have never been this fun. To get you started on the right track, we’ll delve into a concise guide covering essential tips and strategies for maximizing your game studio’s success. Remember, creativity, strategy, and wise decision-making are key to conquering the gaming world!

  1. Choosing your starting genre and type:

As the CEO of your brand-new game studio, you’ll want to select an appealing game genre and type that appeal to a broad audience. Focus on combinations with high marketability and bear in mind that specific genres perform better in combination with particular types. For instance, racing pairs well with action or simulation, while RPGs complement adventure or fantasy excellently. These combinations will help bring in higher sales and profits.

  1. Prioritize leveling up your employees:

Your game studio is only as good as the developers on your team. Focus on leveling them up by allocating Research Data (RD). Employees perform better when specializing in specific areas, so choose a focus (designer, writer, sound engineer, or hacker) for each team member and assign RD accordingly. As the game progresses, hire new employees that are better skilled and have higher potential, slowly upgrading your team and improving game quality.

  1. Plan ahead for gaming consoles:

Consoles are crucial for your game to succeed. As a publisher, you must cater to a larger audience, so keep an eye on popular platforms and their market share. Licensing fees can be an obstacle, but collaborating with a well-established console can significantly boost game sales. Additionally, be prepared for console launches, as they usually signal a boom in game popularity and can lead to increased sales.

  1. Manage your development time:

One essential factor in Game Dev Story is striking the perfect balance between development time and quality. Speeding through the development process may save time now, but it’ll likely result in lower-quality games and unimpressed fans. Take your time to ensure the game properly advances through the different stages, keeping an eye on bug fixes while maintaining acceptable development timeframes.

  1. Attend trade shows:

Dedicate time (and money) to participate in trade shows such as E3 (called Gamedex in the game), where you can showcase your latest title and generate interest in your studio. The better your booth, the more attention you’ll garner, leading to increased fan base and visibility.

  1. Utilize advertising effectively:

Invest in different forms of advertising, like magazines, billboards, and online platforms, to promote your latest game releases. Experiment with various advertising mediums to find which best suits your target market, resulting in higher game sales.

Game Dev Story, a highly popular management simulator, provides players with the opportunity to experience the journey of game developers from scratch. As the CEO of your own game company, you’ll create successful and even failed releases, manage projects, and strategize to ensure smooth company operations. This guide will provide valuable tips and insights for both novice and experienced players, to help them reach new heights in the game.

Develop Your Console:

Though often overlooked, the development of a personal console can greatly benefit your progress in the game. Regularly support your console with new games and advertisements after its launch. Reap additional benefits by re-training a team member to become a hardware engineer, as this role is essential for console development.

Invest in Advertising:

A well-marketed video game can generate more revenue than a top-quality release with no promotion. So, allocate adequate funds for advertising your creations. For example, focus on marketing your innovative console to increase its visibility, thereby boosting your sales and profits in the long run.

Produce Sequels:

Continuously creating new games can be time-consuming and risky. Instead, identify 4-6 different game types and release sequels for the most popular ones. This strategy provides you with a steady income and allows you to focus on devising new game ideas at your own pace.

Aim for Game Awards:

Winning a prestigious Game Award is a dream for every Game Dev Story player. Although the Global Game Award may seem elusive during the initial stages, you can take small steps to increase your chances of winning other accolades. Each award you win will not only boost your company’s reputation but also provide a significant financial reward.

How to get the Game of The Year Award in Game Dev Story

Developing a Game in Game Dev Story

To make sure you get the Game of The Year Award in Game Dev Story, you will have to create an unbelievable game, and we got you with that.
Here are a few tips on how you can do that

Never Use The Same Employee for a task you used while developing your previous game and how to use a glitch to actually use the same Employee again and again.

Employee Options in Game Dev Story

Yes, you read that right. If you use the same employee, again and again, it will drastically decrease the points they give out, and I have a glitch that will prevent this. If you often forget who you used in the previous game development phase, we got you covered with that too. There will be written “Prev” when you try to use them. To create a game with them, you will have to do this.

  • Try creating a game
  • When the secretary asks you who should write a scenario, click back and then continue

Doing the steps above will remove that Prev Condition from all of the employees, and you can use the same employees again and again by doing this every time before you create a game without any loss in the development points at all.

Have the best Combinations

We have an entire list of all the combinations in Game Dev Story. You can scroll below to see them and try using the “Amazing” Combinations to avoid “Not Good” Combinations.

How to make a Console and Get a Hardware engineer in Game Dev Story

Image from Game Dev Story

This step might be a bit hard for some because you will need a lot of resources for this, so what you have to do is get a level 5 employee in designer then make him change careers to Sound Engineer, Coder, Writer, Producer and Director and then get level 5 in all of them it will unlock the change career to Hardware Engineer option then you can finally make a console.

To change someone’s career field, take an employee to use research points to get them to level 5; after that, use a Career Change Manual, then move that Employee to the field you would like to. You can repeat this thing as many times as you like to.

Career Change Manuals are sold by the salesman who will visit you once every year.

To make a console, you will need a Hardware engineer, and to get a hardware engineer, you should follow the above tips; making a console will take a lot of time, and your fanbase might shrink too since you won’t be developing a new game at that time.
