Xbox owns the publishing rights for Outer Worlds

Outer Worlds came out in 2019. It was published by Private Division/ Take-Two Interactive. Many people have been confused for a while if Take-Two owns the publishing rights for Outer Worlds or the parent company of Obsidian Games, aka Xbox. This has been finally confirmed.
Derek Strickland Tweak Town’s Editor managed to get an official statement by Private Division on Outer Worlds, and Private Division stated, “Moving forward, Obsidian and Microsoft will be publishing future iterations in the franchise, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see where they take it.”
So basically, what this means is that Microsoft and Obsidian are free to make an Outer Worlds sequel or a spin-off since Private Division does not own the rights to the IP.
Obsidian games are currently working on Avowed, which looks very interesting. It has been confirmed that Obsidian is working on a 4th game, but the description does not seem like an Outer Worlds sequel at all, so you should not expect an Outer Worlds sequel for a while. I’d guess that they’ll have to complete Avowed and their other game to start working on Outer Worlds.
